According to Dan Rafael's notebook, Calvin Brock's new trainer is Pernell Whitaker.
I knew Pernell was attempting to get into training fighters, but I have to say that I never expected his first big name fighter to be a heavyweight.

i caught word of this yesterday and share the same opinion.
brock doesnt seem like the kind of fighter to me that would be able to capitalize on pernells strengths.
id like to see him hook up with judah............... they need each other sooo bad

Ya this is a very good point. Whitaker and Judah are actually pretty good friends. Zab was coming up towards the end of Pernell's career, and I think Zab may have even taken part in some of Pernell's training camps. I know Zab and Vargas were in the ring with Pernell for the ring intros for the Whitaker-DLH fight.Originally Posted by frozensolid_702
Whitaker would seem to be a perfect match with Judah. Both southpaws with great hand and foot speed. I assume the only reason something like this hasn't happened is because Zab is trained by father. If he was trained by some random guy he would probably dump him for someone like Pernell.
until that changes, zabs gonna be wasted potential imoOriginally Posted by SweetPea
i never knew that zab and pernell were cool, but thats the icing on the cake if so. its like you pointed out, both southpaws, and great speed, AND i think that zabs gotta lot more power than most give him credit for.
zabs still reasonably young, and far from shot (he looked damn near unbeatable in the beginning of the mayweather fight) if some of pernells conditioning/stamina, technique, and elusiveness were to rub off on judah over the course of their training...........![]()
So Calvin Dumped his dad or are they co-training... I mean Pernell is the obvious choice, but when there is family involved it can get real hairy... I think this should help Brock with his already decent footwork and defense, curious to see if Pernell will be auspicious in his training... This can open the door for a fruitful 2nd life in Boxing for one of the modern era greats![]()
Brock's old trainer was Tom Yankello (trained Paul Spadafora)
Brock's dad will still be in his corner I am sure
