Default Jones or Calzaghe at Super Middleweight

OK for a while the Joe Calzaghe band wagon was riding high....It seems that now even some of his once biggest fans are detractors......

The claim is he's the best Super Middleweight of all time.....

IMO at Super Middleweight Roy Jones Destroys him with in 5....

    whats everyone elses opinion

Calzaghe gets saved by the referee in the 2nd. Jones at 168 is the definition of a perfect fighter. Unbeatable.

Over the last 3 years Calzaghe's form would mean he'd beat RJ Jnr by UD. However in Calzaghe's prime he would have had him out of there by Rnd 8.....Roy is so overated and only ever fought a good fighter in Hopkins......who wasn't yet in his prime.

Yeah ok then Jones also beat Toney aswell if you remember. Jones would beat Calzaghe at supermiddle weight in his prime no problem i think. How can you say he aint really fought no one when calzaghes next opponent is a reality tv star?

wow another average joe.C vs. a true great fighter topic.

joe.C is nowhere near jones j.r level prime for prime. this is ridicules, joe.C beats a overhype lacy and he himself blows up to overhype propotion.

i said it before i'll say it again prime for prime, james toney whoops joe, winky whoops joe, bhop whoops joe, and most def, roy jones jr. whoops joe.................easy

The only reason I even brought the topic up is the fact that after the Lacey win you would have thought Joe could box on water....SOOOO Much paraise....Now it is those same people who I see on the boards criticizing him.....I just find it funny how such a turn around in opinion has taken place....When his win over Lacey was not then or now impressive.....Other than Power what did Lacey have?

Although im probably one of the biggest roy jones fans here ..I gota differ...

I would have a feeling calzaghe would try keep the pace slow..A very boring first round roy measures out.. joe lands very very little...
the second joe tries to step up the pace.. but cant handle roy's strait right leads and combinations and gets made to looks slightly foolish...
Then from either the second or third on i think joe goes off game plan and goes to just following roy around not really committing himself til about the sixth.. and roy wouldnt be able to get him to open up..
Joe's never been in a fight where he was outmatched and he wouldnt think there is one out there..
But i feel confident if he stepped in with a roy jones he'd be outmatched and embarrassed and loose his game.. i think roy would be able to put him down but i think it would come dowbn to the ref to stop it..

Roy was a blur at Super Middleweight... I reckon he would blitz Joe completely, maybe even stop him. Would be hard for Joe to get his combo's off... he has never faced anyone that even comes close the physical freak of nature that Jones was at Super Middleweight. Awesome Power, scary speed and inhuman reflexes would give Calzaghe hell for as long as he was in the ring in my opinion.

Jones Jr may have been able to outhustle Calzaghe for a decision victory, but for me there are too many question marks...

I would sit on the fence with this really...

I think Jones would punish him for at least 3 rds....Jones loved to just embarrass opponents.....Wished he would have never left 168...

I dont think there is much to substantiate that Jones would stop Calzaghe. Might be able to put him down, but Calzaghe would simply get back up. Looking back over the career of Jones Jr, Calzaghe would have been one of the most difficult fights on his resume, if the fight had ever taken place. Jones had the tools, but Calzaghe would have made it less than easy...

I just think the motivation is what really drove Jones...and the opportunity to really show out against someone like Joe C would bring out the best of Jones...and he was the beast at 168....

I agree with you that Jones was great at 168, but its also a situation that would have Calzaghe all guns a blazing. Skillwise Calzaghe is up there with Jones. Its only Jones' freakish physicality and speed that hold the edge over Joe. I really cannot see Jones stopping him.
