    Default *Beyond the Glory*

Last night I watched all of the 'Beyond The Glorys' I have which are; Duran, ODLH, B-Hop, RJJ, Foreman, Tyson, Frazier, SRL, Lennox, Holyfield..... Stood up 'till like 3:00 in the morning watching them. (That I know of there have been 11 BTG series, I'm missing the Holmes one )

Anyway!! I started thinking which fighter I would MOST like to see a 'Beyond the Glory' done on them.... So with that I wanna see who you think should have a BTG series done on them you can ONLY list 3 no more then that cause in that case we could have endless lists which would just end up throwing the idea of the thread away, they don't have to be legends or ATG but remember they have to bring some appeal to the people as doing a BTG on a fighter who merely fought on TV but had a interesting time line leading up to him becoming a boxer would not really work.....

Hope it makes sense, someone who is somewhat known but doesn't have to be an ATG and has to have an story that will grab you from the start.

With that being said, here are the 3 fighters who I think deserve to have a BTG series done on them.....

    1. JCC - For everything he stood for, for what he represented everytime he stepped foot in the ring for his accomplishments and the lifestyle that he lived out of the ring. Rumored girlfriends, rumors of involvement with drug lords.
    2. Arturo Gatti - Our modern day warrior I have never seen a guy be completely out in the fight, yet still be in to comeback and KYTFO!!! Our blood, guts and glory fighter. The human highlight reel.
    3. Johnny Tapia - Talk about BTG, this guy was able to overcome sooo many obstacles in his life and has a on going war with GOOD vs. EVIL up untill this day. I know he has a book and it's a great read by the way..... But would really like to see it in film.

So who do you think deserves a BTG?

The Tyson BTG was the best. On the whole I'm not the biggest fan of the show. I loved the Tyson one. The ODLH one was OK but I have seen better pieces on him.

But as for fighters I would love to see detailed...

    1. Kassim Ouma - I know he doesn't like to talk about it but what he has overcome is truly extraordinary.

    2. Pernell Whitaker - Grew up in one of the roughest cities in America in Norfolk, Virginia and of course went to jail and lives a fairly simplistic lifestyle now. I've read before that he loves online checkers and he moved all of his fancy furniture to his guest house and has a pretty plain house now. But then I see him seated ringside for Gatti fights in flashy suits and now he's training fighters so I don't know what to think?

    3 - Jesus Chavez

That's wierd I typed it out and everything and I didn't notice it wasn't there. It's late at night.

Anyways, I first got curious about him when I heard that he had a biography out and a documentary on him before he even turned 27. This was before the Leavander Johnson stuff too. Then I read a bit. The guy really has been through a lot. Arrested a few times, several surgeries a serious car accident and he has been deported twice yet apparently is one of the more upbeat and striking personalities in all the sport. Then of course...the Leavander Johnson fight How one deals with something like that is always something I'm interested in. Just from what little I've read on him he seems like a very interesting guy who's led a most eventful life.

I've been meaning forever to get his book (aswell as Tapia's) but I would like do see a documentary on him too.

    Nice idea CutMeMick,

I guess my top 3 would be.

    1. Alexis Arguello, I know this guy was meant to be sensational but I've ever seen one of his fights and would like to know more about him

    2. Arron 'The Hawk' Pryor, Arguello's nemesis and conquerer, and again a fighter I'd like to know more about

    3. Carlos Monzon, Some think he was the greatest middleweight ever, a violent criminal outside the ring, tragic early death, would love to know more about him too

CC for the thread good topic...Don't think we ever had this one before?...And BTG kicks ass...

I would have to go with in my opp..

Johnny Tapia--Mi Vida Loca--I have seen tons of stories on him but BTG has a way of putting things that gets you really wrapped up in the story..His recent overdose puts him on top of my list...Just when we thought all that was behind him...

Edison Miranda--The whole thing about being left by his young mother to fend for himself on the streets is amazing...I can't believe the guy managed to become a productive adult without being a degenerate---Great story...Ouma can be in there as well due to him being in the
    military at 9!!!

Chuck Wepner--I know sounds crazy but the guy took beatings like no one else and Rocky was based on him...What makes a guy keep taking those beatings and coming back for more??

    Definately Ouma...

I think Toney could be a good one.. Hes a very interesting character and it would be nice to see his rise to fame for him to fade away only to come back when he was fighter of the year a few years back...

    Maybe barrera, Morales or pac?..

I would liek to see one that tied in a few fighters in all honesty..

Perhaps not so much beyond the glory..But a Documentary about a certain period of time in boxing and certain series' of fights would be rather cool i think..

    Peace

Well I thought about that and why SRR doesn't have one, Ali doesn't have a BTG. I thinks it's because they have soooooo many documentarys that a BTG they (They the network) probably feels those stories have been done too many times and would rather do something new and fresh...... I'm only guessing here......

    1. jimmy wilde - although i think alot of his history would be hard to trace? but after reading about him and from a Welsh point of view i would love to see a doc about him.

    2. Jack Dempsey - I have read, watched, heard as much about jack as i can but there are tonnes of stuff i know i don't know about him, starting off as a homeless guy fighting for food and becoming one of the mose loved and greatest heavys of all time - and the best left hook all time.

    3. Billy Conn - A fighter who done some amazing things IMO through his career came in at 166lbs to fight louis (papaers claimed he was 175 and louis 199 and a half lb to make it look better) Billy was one of the greatest LHW but wa sbetter suited to SMW or even middle, two weight he never fought at i believe

I would like to see one for Jeff Lacy. Leading up to the Calzaghe fight and then hearing about the after effect on his life.

I think BTG only covers fighters of the past 20 or 30 years and they only cover all time greats so most of the guys you lot are suggesting are very unlikely to have a BTG show after them.

    Arguello

    Pryor

    Monzon

    Julio Caesar Chavez

    P Whittaker

    James Toney

    Morales

    Barrera

Those are the guys who the series would be most likely to include and all deserve a show imo.

Guys like Ouma, Miranda, Lacy and Judah just havn't achieved nearly enough to be on the show and guys like Ketchel and Dempsey are too old to fit the show's criteria.

I would love to see a new series featuring the guys mentioned above though.
