    Default OH SH*T

Mike McCullan was sparring before the Micheal Watson fight nice and light. So a trainer said to Mikes party if his Lt Heavy could move around with Mike, before they started the trainer told his fighter to go out and make a name for Himself. He came out of the corner throwing Bombs, this went on for !/2 a minute Mike blocking and slipping shots then went up a gear and gave the biggest beatdown Ive ever seen in a gym. the guy at the end got sparked, his trainer said Oh Shit. I said to him that was bad advice you gave him. Just wondering if anybody had witnessed anything simular

Didnt Howard Eastman (as well as the prospect of having to face Calzaghe) convince Steve Collins to hang them up by sparking him out in the gym?

When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Thats what I heard from somebody who was there. SRR wanted $50,000 to fight him when he was getting 12,000 a fight I beleive he wanted no part of him, and Burley was past his best,

Reminds me of a story one of my old sparring partners told me.. I think it was Mike Middleton that told me this,? many years ago.. Ican’t swear to it…but it was funny.. He said he was waiting in Ring #2 to spar with Bowe, when Bowe came out these 2 Heavyweight Blokes in ring #1 who were also sparring
( not going to name names) anyway they both had been making fun of the way Bowe talks, calling him “marbles” implying that he sounds like he has marbles in his mouth when he talks . Apparently those guys had been pressing Bowe over some period of time , and all of a sudden Bowe just snapped.. Jumped in Ring #1 and sparked them both out ! Bamn Bamn ! I got a good giggle from hearing that.

I heard alot of storeis from a guy up here who used to be 3rd ranked in the featherweight division way back when. He said that Ray Robinson had alot of problems with true boxers, and he wouldn't fight alot of them, and instead fought the bigger, tougher brutes because he could utilize his superior speed and technique to defeat them.

He also told me one time Joe Louis tried to get a younger Robinson to playfully spar with him, and Robinson didn't want to, but he got coaxed in eventually. So Ray got into the ring hit Joe with a 5 or 6 punch combination then left, and said that Joe couldn't box worth beans.

I was at the Lennox Lewis in London with a fighter friend of mine who was just getting back into training after a couple of weeks holiday !! We just went through the motions keeping everything light and dandy .

A certain lightmiddle at the time was making lightripples in his hometown by which i mean everybody knew he was shit but had been given the big buildup on Skysposrts and his trainer ( an outrageous self promoter and well known fighter ) was beckoning his fighter to the ring and shouting out make way for the next Champion of the world at the time he was a champion ( dying to say but i cant ) .

At 1st i thought it was lighthearted but then as the morning went on i could hear the trainer in the background saying things about De La Hoya and a few people making eye contact with me and listening to the same things were looking at me knowingly and shaking their heads .

After a while it died down and a young fighter called Isaac Sebaduka came in and instantly the trainer of the fighter ( from now ill call him big mouth) asked him to come up to the ring and go a few rounds with ********.

Isaac was a Superfeather/Lightweight initially said no and that having just arrived he needed to warm up properly and get loose , Bigmouth promised it would only be light and ' what better way to get warm' .

Isaac against his better judgement got into the ring and after the 1st round ******* started to let the leather fly and it was a horrible sight it was completly taking the piss and yet not one trainer in the gym said or did anything yet everybody was witnessing a horribly onesided beatdown from a fighter with a 30 Pound weight advantage .

It made me sick , what mademe even sicker was listening to Bigmouth glorify his young *******s effort and go on about how Wayne Alexander and a few others should look out .

This went on for a fe more round finally after a body shot Isaac had enough , watching him getting out of the ring totally wrung out made me sick being a hostile place though you keep your emotions andfeelings to yourself .

    Fucking sickening .

Next morning same old shit Bigmouth and ******* have the ring and are making lots of noise but today will be different , in walks David Starie !!!!

Rather than berate Bigmouth asks Staries handlers politely if they'd like to move around . David agreed and was all set to go

Taking it all rather seriously ******* returned to the corner and all i can hear is Bigmouth whispering ' make this mug feel it ' .

Round 1 , ******* moves around and trying to Rip lefts to Staries body as the round gooes on Starie is starting to clock that ******* has a little more intent than just moving round , Thing get increasingly heaten untill in a clinch ******* catches Starie with a full blooded left hook and decks him .

Talking about taking the piss. Bigmouth and ******* are almost jumping for joy '' its starting to roll its coming together '' celebrating. Couldnt believe my ears .

Starie is pissed off and i mean pissed he hasnt said a word at all his trainer knowing David well knows he's fucked and is trying to talk him down by reminding him he has a fight coming up and not to do anything daft . what i remember was so striking was that his trainer was fucking ancient but was incredibly calm and almost cheerfull .

Ive never been so sure of anything in my life looking at Starie i knew he was goonna put a hurting on .

The anticipation in the gym is almost at fever pitch by now trainers have stopped asking their charges to carry on what their doing because even they have stopped and a good crowd has settled round the ring i could actually feel the heat .

~Round 2 , Starie is calm and assureed boxing behind his jab but everynow and then getting caught with a silly punch to which meets with bigmouths obvious delight as the fight goes on Starie grows more into it by the end of the round he's letting his right snap out and its a beautifull shot really crisp and ******* is getting more and more desperate the more angry he gets the harder he tries the more often his head is beaten back with a well time straight right .

Between rounds told me so much about the boxing Game ,Bigmouth was a mess shouting telling him all the wrong thngs close him down , be quicker with the jab you gotta be more aggressive that sorta thing.

Meanwhile in Staries corner their having a Ploughmans lunch and a beer the picture of calm completely detached from the whole atomosphere of the gym in the last 15 seconds Staries trainer makes the only comment on the spar so far '' Jabs working lovely Dave'' ( imagine it in the Thickest Suffolk accent ) .

Rounds 3 ,4,5 are completely one sided and thebully is getting a boxing lesson i mean its teacher against pupil and the pupil is being sorely taught a lessonn he is a mess and well beaten a completely pointless excercise and all because he wasted the oppurtunity to learn and practise what should be practised in the gym .

A few weeks later Spender Oliver was commenting on what a good trainer Bigmouth is , i remember thinking if only he knew .

David Starie , class act .

I heard that Collins fainted. To be fair I'm way more likely to believe that he fainted due to low blood pressure than I am that Howard Eastman knocked him out.

Collins went toe to toe with Eubank twice, Benn twice and Mike McCallum and never got stopped in his entire career. The guy had an iron chin and was as tough as old boots.

No way Howard 'I'm was born to underachieve' Eastman would have KO'd him

Sad thing is yes I have seen it happen more than I like to admit...For some reason you get these second rate trainers who want to be or want their guy to be known so bad they don't think....They feel if their guy can make a good showing sparring it will somehow raise the bar for their fighter....they fail to think about a few things

1--The guy they want their fighter to make his so called mark on is at the level he is for a reason and he made it there in the ring during the fights when it counts..

2--Most top guys don't give it there all when sparring...Sparring is to help improve not to go out and take off the other guys head...but if you give the guy no choice he can turn it into a fight...and the results usually end up the way this guys did
Hidden Content IN CASE THEY ALL FORGOT WHAT REAL HEAVYWEIGHT POWER WAS!!!
