    Default Weak Jab - Please Help

    I'm right handed, but my left jab sucks. It's not fast or strong enough. I'm better off fighting southpaw. Is there anyone way to train yourself to be left handed? Also, whats the best way to breathe during jogging, running, sparring, etc. And what also keeps you motivated to box? Thanks.

    I think 99% of people who fight orthodox (Jab with left) are right handed like you... And i'm SURE that every one of them felt when they started that their right was their strong hand and their left was their weak hand...
    When you start your left (as it's your weak hand) will always feel slow and clumsy and pretty useless compared to your right hand, but just keep working on your jab over and over. I felt the same when I first started but seriously, after as little as a month, I couldn't even IMAGINE changing to throwing my right out as a jab...
    You just get used to it, and just keep using good form with your jab and it'll get harder and faster and more accurate, trust me. EVERYONE starts off feeling like their left isn't as strong as their right. In fact in most cases your right will always be stronger, but certainly your left is your Jab hand and with some work it'll get fast and strong. Trust me!
    Just keep at it and have fun...

    Buckshot, get yourself an eyepatch and when training wear the patch over your right eye for a couple of week.

    As far as motivation to box? I don't really need any.

    At first I had to motivate myself to exercise and keep fit any way I could. Sometime I would just not want to exercise with every single part of me. But I just forced myself to do it, like it or not, and you always feel great afterwards...
    When I started boxing though it was just plain fun... And I have to actually motivate myself to stay away from it if I have other important things to do...

    Basically their is just so much to boxing... Even if it's purely to keep fit you can still have a LOT more fun with it than other basic exercising. The fact that you have a bunch of skills and techniques there to continually better yourself at and try to perfect,, well that's what lifes about. You can never be perfect at it, but working to be the best you can at it is what it's all about. Boxing makes you fitter, tougher, smarter (i think), more confident, happier etc etc... There's the motivation right there... When I stop boxing (and this is going to sound lame), I feel like my life is missing something that is essential to it's growth.
    Once you really understand it and start having fun with it and living the lifestyle a little, motivation to box comes very easy....
    (getting up at 5:30 am on a freeeezing cold day for a 5 mile run on the other hand is a TOTALLLLY different story... Don't ask me how I motivate myself to do that because I have no idea.. Sometimes it just feels like idiotic routine,, if nothing else..)

    Good technique to throw jab is throw it like whip throw it snappy but don't throw it like your trying to punch hole through a wall just look for snap and thats key to jab don't worry about power good snappy jab is key learn that first then extra power will come just throw it fast snappy and like a whip just watch how Larry Holmes throws his jab thats what you want if you have dumbbells you could try throwing jab with dumbbell to get your arm stronger.

    First, start doing things with your left hand more often...from eating to lifting always go with the left first. Force yourself to work the left moreso than the right.....that's one of the biggest problems for you righties...the left...every thing is designed to be used by your right hand....and us lefties benefit from it.. Seriously though...have you started throwing 1000 jabs a night yet....get your left used to it....act like you're stealing something out of someone's hand. reach out ..take it out of the hand..pull back before the hand closes...it's a visual thing.....
    It feels good to be back home.

    the more you use it the more it will start to feel natural....

    Also the double end bag is a great way to help gain control better with the left.....

    I knew a guy once who would do an extra round of what ever he was woring on...EG Heavy bag,,Double end,,Speed..mits...

    using nothing but his left
