i really enjoy watching winky fight. great defence, amazing southpaw jab.
he can completely own a fighter with his fantastic jab cross combination.
i think he is a great great fighter.
i totally agree, you think he would have the same effect if he was right handed?
I think it is very low risk and often times very boring to watch. I hope Bernard Hopkins knocks him out.Originally Posted by ThePlatinumBoy

My opinion of winky wright.. Is as follows..
He is an excellent fighter.. But not a very exciting fighter..
However..Winky is an interesting boxer and an interesting person for the following reason..
Rather then just fanfare..Winky has obtained something a little different.. You can't help but like winky because he is just easy to respect.. While you might say.. I like [Insert Prospect here]
Because he has fought such entertaining fights, shown promise and talks a good game etc..
Winky has had a pretty hard career..He is american..American fighters dont usually have to leave america to fight because america is where the best competition is at and thats the place where the publicity is at..
Winky has fought all over the world.. his only losses are either a fair while ago or diputed decisions and he is a fighters fighter.. Up front..Nice guy, and he wants to fight the best..
He fights smart.. its plain to see..Especially considering the level of his competition that he is a supreme boxer..While he isnt as popular as, mosely or de la hoya..Among fight fans he is and probably will be for a fair while.. A top p4p star..
Ive said the same about jermain taylor.. He went from a grown up prospect to World champ and p4p candidate in a matter of a few fights..Cos he'll take em all on..
He fights Joppy..A gateholder of middleweights..Hes the guy whos been in with the best and you see if your world class material on..
So then he fights hopkins, Gets two decisions..Some dusputed but still this is bernard hopkins..If your beating hopkins and not getting trampled and at least half the people watching saying you won..Then you special.. Then winky.. Keeps taking these big fights..How about a fight off..We'll take ouma..Not exactly a fight off kinda fighter..Then signs to fight spinks another big name fighter..
Now thats one hell of a rec.. and you consider him and compare that to winky then thats just crazy..
He fought vargas, Disputed decision, beat the great shane mosely twice, Tito a boxing masterclass,
soliman a decent contender, taylor a disputed draw.. quartey a great fighter, and signs to fight hopkins..Fighters like winky have real stones..
And when he keeps saying i want oscar i want floyd..You know he wants those fights..
If only all fighters were like winky.. Its hard to earn the level of respect he has when you arent the most exciting fighter out
Immortal Technique
im my opinion winky is the bestOriginally Posted by ds91
he proved it against tito and if he didnt change his stlye against taylor;he wouldve won
i give winky a year to be on top of any p4p list
after he beats dlh, bhop, and taylor in a rematch maybe even pbf
Its the perfect style to teach a kid boxing in the gym . It is nothing too advanced but it is very effective and when utilised by one of the greats its unbeatable.
Winky has mastered that peek a boo style to perfection . Sometimes it may not be great to watch but he is so good at shuttig fighters down with that defensive poise. Anyone who wants to learn how to box just study Winky Wright and you cant go wrong . The guy is pure class .
good article, that is spot on! have a cool click
what i mean by low risk is he never takes chances; rarely engages or commits to throwing a big punch because he wants to keep his D so tight...i mean that's his style hes a super defensive style...but that makes for a fighter who rarely presses the action or never does. im not saying he's bad. he's an awesome boxer. but it is a super low risk style. no he dont have to put his hands down. he shouldnt do that. but when he has someone in trouble it would be nice to see him try to finish the job. it would be nice to see him engage in a few exchanges once in awhile.Originally Posted by ds91
I like comparing glen johnson and winkys stance, two hands up on guard and quick jabs and pressure. glen doesn't have as good defense though, but I'll like both offensively. that is when winky gets on offense and pressure, he reminds me of glen johnsons full foward caslte combinations.
a lot of people say winky isn't entertaining but i think he is weather he gets defensively or offensively. his best at defense and can really counter anyone to death but when that defensive caslte gets annoyed and decides to attack full force boy your in trouble because winky can bring pressure and unbrakeable defense at the same time.
Winky is a genius in the ring and he never lets his emotions get him to change his style, hes consistant. I dont find it boring to watch him at all.
Psalm 144: Blessed be the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle
Its effective but boring
