Default Was Freddie Roach at the fight last night?

Did anybody think that Roach kinda disappeared last night? Floyd clearly had trouble with the jab but I kinda felt like Roach told ODLH to jab a couple times and then didn't say anything about it in the late rounds. He was really quiet to. I think ODLH needs Floyd Sr in his corner because Floyd Sr would have been in his face hardcore style telling him to jab. Roach didn't really have any advice either.

Both corners seemed pretty quiet to me. I think there was probably a huge feeling of "these guys know what the fuck they're doing, what can I say" in both corners.

yea both corners were quite, and roach is has never been the kind of coach to get on his fighters face, he'll wisper things to your ears in a way you won't forget. actually roach and oscar was shown a lot during the brake oscar even replying and keeping focus. roach is just a quite kind of coach thats why.

We were all hyped up for the fight so I didn't hear a lot of the commentaries...much less the corners. I will watch it again and pay very close attention to Roach's comments.

Yeah I kind of expected more urgency from Roach in the latter rounds. I also noticed that Oscar didnt say a single word in the corner and his expression didnt really change throughout the fight. But I do think that Oscar executed the gameplan as best as he could so maybe there wasnt much Roach could say. His jab was effective early but he was getting countered more frequently as the fight went on.

I too was thinking to myself, where the phuk is the sense of urgency? Oscar was fading, Floyd was gaining momentum. I honestly thought Oscar was going to end this fight early and I think he should have tried a little harder to not let this fight go to the judges. Just maybe, that was the problem. He was trying to load up and he never really got off. Oscar's left hook was missing in action last night.

Freddie is good but I think someday people will realize that cornermen are not as significant as we think they are. Even when Hearns lost to Ray, everyone said that Angelo Dundee was the one who helped Ray Leonard realize he was behind and said your blowing it son. Fact is Tommy ran out of gas. He was overtrained and weighed 145 and it had less to do with Angelo than to do with Hearns being exhausted in round 14. When Tommy was hurt whether Angelo said it or not, Ray would have been all over Tommy like he was regardless. He wanted Hearrns knocked out more than Angelo did. Cornerman are great to have but whether Roach was there or Floyd Sr. I think the same result happens. I think maybe Emanual Steward would have been good for Oscar in a way more, just because he would tell Oscar to jab and Emanual is one guy who always developed jabs with his fighters almost more than most guys. He would have been saying "throw the jab"!!! Forget everything else and throw the jab. But then I think as much as people think the jab would have been the key, Floyd would have found a way to counter the jab.. Why else didn't Oscar throw the jab more? Floyd was doing something to make him not throw it. And I do not buy that excuse Oscar said after that it just was not a jab day? Maybe his arms were tired and he really didn't have the energy to throw it.

Very good points. The thing is though that Oscar, like many other fighters, will start daydreaming sometimes in his corner, so he needs a comment like Floyd Sr. " Throw your fucking jab man!!! " That woke him up in the Mayorga fight. Emmanuel Steward saying " use your jab " is just not the same.

After the 9th, Roach said " Keep popping that jab ". At 1:28 Rd 10 Steward said " Floyd looks flashy, but he's having problems hitting Oscar ". OF COURSE...he's not BALDOMIR!!!!!!! After the 11th round Roach said " I'm here for you son...put the jab and right hand together here, ok? " In my opinion Roach was not as emotional in getting his message across but he was giving out very good advice. Floyd Sr. and Oscar seem to click more in the corner though. However, I don't know if Sr. would have come up with the good strategy Roach came up with.
