An interview from the Campbell Arrocoro weigh in from the other night.
Pretty much what I expected. Lacy is always a level headed guy, and I know most think Jeff's crazy about the Calzaghe rematch (including Joe probably) but I think he really does have the tools to beat him. And Lacy was just a shell in the ring that night, it was depressing to watch.
Immediately though, he said all the right things and said he would watch the tape (which he later deferred to Birmingham because he couldn't bear to watch), and he went out and did the right thing in the Typsko fight in a bout I think that he got a draw at worst in. I thought he won a clear 96-94 personally.
Glad we got a timetable, hopefully by February 08 we have Lacy in the ring and by mid 09 we have him in a title fight. Can't see how anyone can root against him, and he won't have the hype on his back for this one.
Good luck to him, he's certainly makes the rounds, I see him on ESPN all the time. Good thing. I hate when fighters seem to just disappear. Want to see him succeed in the worst way really.
Also, ESB really needs a better editor
And that 13th round thing is ridiculous. I think it was the USBA who tried that for title fights, or maybe the NABF I'm not quite sure, and in the two instances it happened, it didn't work. Stupid idea, draws are part of the sport, no need to change that.

Though an IBF title at such a short stage in his career is impressive.
He will be back and will wear a title again.

Good stuff, Jeff is always upbeat and positive with a good head on his shoulders, a true ambassador for the sport
Hope he dosent rush this injury and lets the proper time take place to heal, Jeff has tremendous heart and determination and will be in the ring soon enough winning titles...
funny how all the brits complain about him being all hype, yet they can't stop talking about him and constantly use him as being Joe Calzaghe's shining moment when they say he was all hype.
Lacy will come back if he stops relying on his power
Lacy will never have tools to beat Calzaghe someone losing 12 rounds to 0 i don't care how much they didn't look themselves still not going to come anywhere close and also because Lacy just isn't good enough to beat Calzaghe.Originally Posted by amat
CC back JT, Whilst I agree with most of what you and Amat have written about Jeff's level head etc. I TOTALLY disagree on him having a rematch v JC. Totally.
He has way too much to work on before he can even consider being competetive with Joe. His lack of jab, head movement, sometimes arcing/looping shots and recent lack of combinations would all need to improved on as would his footwork. I don't ever envisage seeing a rematch nor do I really want to see one.
I like Jeff alot,he has a tremendous style but, and sorry to sound so blunt,Joe embaressed him and destroyed him. He was not competetive for more than 30 seconds in that entire fight. It didn't matter whether it was on the outside,or the inside(where Jeff should have done his work), he was getting beaten up.
That's kind of it though, he didn't do any work. He adjusted his shorts more then he threw punches. Calzaghe is an engaging guy, he played right into Lacy's style by squaring up with him on the inside (which I knew he would and after everyone predicted Joe to outbox him from the outside) and Lacy did nothing.Originally Posted by El Gamo
I know he got beat up, I know he definitely didn't prove anything to anyone that night and I don't mean to sound like a Judah fan, but had the Lacy that beat Reid showed up, that fight could have been FOTY imo.
But instead he did nothing, he choked. If he fought the way he usually fights that night and I have a hard time picking against him. Now he's way set back, but it can be made up. And a rematch will never happen, and rightfully so as he has already had his opportunity but if it ever did happen, I wouldn't even use the first fight as reference really...
Fair enough, you make valid points, just start going all Judah fan on me!Originally Posted by amat
It's true Lacy can perform better but JOe was so superior that even if that acy turned up,I doubt he would have won. In an ideal world,I'd like Jeff to come back, take some easier fights, get back to his best and work on some things BUT he is not getting any younger so I think he'll have to take whatever he is given. I'd love love to see him beat up on Tarver.
