Asian horror movies

A couple I would recommend (both are listed under "Japanese")

Audition: This is a pretty well known film by acclaimed director Takashi Miike. Very good build up to a disturbing and sadistic end!

Battle Royale: This is another cult classic, though it's not really horror. It's "Lord of the Flies" to the extreme. A group of Japanese high school students are put on an island and forced to kill each other. More of an action film, but good and unique. It was rumored that this film was "banned" in the US, which wasnt true, but gave the film a lot of hype and notoriety.


Also the Korean "Vengeance" trilogy by Chan-wook Park is on here as well. These aren't horror movies either, but are good. The much hyped "Oldboy" was my favorite of the 3 and a great action/revenge movie.

Both Ju-on and Ringu movies are on here as well ("The Grudge" and "The Ring")

Anyone have an opinion on Carved:The Slit Mouthed Woman? I've been thinking about adding this one to the collection, but I can't quite commit to doing so. Someone push me in one direction or the other.

Never heard of it I'm afraid buddy. If it's Jap horror you like the Ringu trilogy is excellent, the back story is really good and far creepier than the shoddy American remakes, with the added bonus that that annoying freak boy who calls his mother by her first name isn't in it.

Watching the American rings all I could think was how much I wanted Samara to rip off his head and vomit down his throat.

never heard of that myself. I've only watched the most mainstream/notorious asian movies for the most part. Most of it happened last year when I first got netflix and foolishly signed up for 4 dvds at a time plan....I wanted to get the "most" out of my subscription so was ordering movies non-stop and decided to "expand" my cinematic repertoire.

Sad thing is I still have that 4 dvd at a time subscription but dont really use it anymore

Canceling/downgrading my subscription has been on my list of things to do for many a month

Speaking of carved faces I did see "Ichi the Killer" (another takashi miike film). It wasnt very good, though. But crazy looking cover.
