The father and trainer of Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Nonito Donaire Sr, says the IBF/IBO flyweight champion is “doing fine” in preparation for a title defense in December.
In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Donaire said his son hadn’t started sparring as yet and was only working out and doing the punch-mitts.
Meantime, elder brother Glenn Donaire (16-3-1, 9 KO’s) is deep in training since he is scheduled to fight on October 20 in Reno, Nevada. However, there is no word as yet on his likely opponent.
Donaire said Nonito is scheduled to fight the winner of the September 22 eliminator between 29 year old Luis Maldonado of Mexico who has a ring record of 36-1-1 with 28 knockouts and Puerto Rico’s 35 year old Jose Lopez who sports a record of 35-7-2 with 29 knockouts.
