I just wanna share this good read. Sugar Shaw and Preme should read this first before they make SIG bets.

    WHY BARRERA CANNOT BEAT PACQUIAO:

First, the Baby-Faced Assassin’s legs aren’t what they used to be. In fact, he’s not baby-faced anymore – he’s more like battle-scarred. Barrera, 33, turned pro in 1995 when Pacquiao was only 10. The age factor will make a big difference because for Barrera to survive Pacquiao, he’s got to move, sway and stay out of trouble in the early rounds. All that movement will mean a lot of legwork.

Second, Barrera’s power never went up to superfeatherweight. Since the Mexican invaded the 130-pound ranks in 2004, he has scored only one knockout – over unheralded Mzonke Fana – in six bouts. That’s a clear indication of Barrera’s inability to bring his power to a level where he can hurt the bigger boys. Even as a featherweight, Barrera couldn’t dispose of Johnny Tapia and Naseem Hamed. Somewhere in his long career, Barrera left his power in the superbantamweight division.

Third, he can run but he can’t hide. Barrera will surely adapt the hit-and-run style he used to beat Rocky Juarez twice last year. He’ll be foolish to engage Pacquiao. His only chance is to last the distance and try to steal a win on points, if the judges oblige. It was Joe Louis who popularized the famous quotation before facing the cat-quick Billy Conn in 1946. In their fight, Conn ran for seven rounds until Louis finally caught up with him and scored a knockout in the eighth.

Fourth, he can’t match Pacquiao’s handspeed. In losing to Juan Manuel Marquez last March, it was obvious Barrera had slowed down. Writer Don Stradley, in The Ring Magazine (Nov. 2007), said, “Although a spurt from Barrera is enough to beat most junior lightweights, it’s not enough to beat the elite – Barrera’s handspeed is down and so is the old ferocity factor.” Pacquiao will blur Barrera’s vision with an avalanche of blows coming from all angles.

Fifth, he can’t take Pacquiao’s power. Four years ago, Barrera was mowed down by Pacquiao. That was when Barrera was much younger. Now that he’s older, he should be even more vulnerable. In their first outing, Barrera was floored by a left in the third and was cut over the left eye in the seventh. He got so desperate that referee Laurence Cole deducted a point from his scorecard for hitting on the break in the ninth. In the 10th, Barrera was barely hanging on. And in the fateful 11th, he fell on one knee and Cole waved it off as his corner threw in the towel.

Sixth, he’s ready for pasture. The hunger is gone. There is little motivation for Barrera to go on. He’s been in too many wars with the wear and tear eroding his body. Barrera is close to retiring and this is clearly his last big payday. In contrast, Pacquiao is in his prime and the wheel of fortune is still spinning for the Filipino ring icon.

Seventh, he can’t sustain himself for 12 rounds. There’s no fitter fighter than Pacquiao in the world today. In the gym, he can go 30 rounds with four different sparmates. Nobody can keep up with him running up and down hills at Griffith Park in Los Angeles or at Alta Vista in Cebu. For Barrera to pull an upset, he’s got to be energized from the first bell to the last. Unfortunately, Father Time isn’t on Barrera’s side.

Eighth, he’s facing a man on a mission. A huge fortune awaits Pacquiao after beating Barrera. There is talk of battling WBO lightweight champion Michael Katsidis or taking on Naseem Hamed (if he ever decides to stage a comeback) or squaring off with unbeaten knockout artist Edwin Valero or meeting WBC titlist Juan Manuel Marquez in a rematch. The list of possible opponents also includes Humberto Soto, Joan Guzman and Alex Arthur. Everybody wants to test Pacquiao because he brings in the big bucks. Barrera isn’t quite the draw he once was.

Ninth, his reflexes are almost gone. If Barrera’s defense was once impregnable, it isn’t anymore. Because he’s slower to react, the Mexican is easier to hit. He will try to be evasive against Pacquiao but he won’t be much of a moving target. Pacquiao will pin him down – in the corners or along the ropes – and show who’s boss.

Finally, his style won’t deter Pacquiao. Barrera had difficulty connecting against Pacquiao, a southpaw, when they met in 2003. Because Pacquiao is left-handed, Barrera has to move a little closer to throw his right – a dangerous proposition. Barrera’s chances hinge on whether he can dictate the tempo from long distance. Pacquiao’s footspeed will block Barrera’s escape routes and cut the ring off, making it difficult for the Mexican to fight on his toes.

There were about 1 million reasons why Douglas couldn't beat Tyson either but he still won never count anyone out Barrera is an elite fighter and seems well up for this fight.

Barrera is not 30 years old like Buster was in 1990. Barrera doesn't have 12" reach advantage against Pac.
