Default Do you think Hopkins-Calzaghe mandates a 24/7 show?

I guess this is a show reserved only for super super fights, and I am wondering if this fight has what it takes to add its name to the 24/7 series. I believe even before the fight is signed it has already created more buzz than most fights generate after their promotion is over, also this fight could be bigger than Mayweather-Hatton as most people are divided with their opinions on their favorite as opposed to Mayweather being everyone's pick in the last fight. also like ricky, Joe's fans would most likely cross the atlantic to make it to the fight hence another british invasion with the intention of revenge for their fellow countrymen. overall think both fighters have attained legendary status in the sport of boxing, both decorated champions in the twilight of their careers & this possibly could be either one of their last fights. With hopkins being a brilliant self-promoter, Joe's personality is still a mystery to his fans therefore perhaps this show may dwell more on that.
"Very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts. I hate that, I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter, to step inside that ring, you have to have guts" Oscar De La Hoya

I actually would love for them to have a 24/7 show if this fight is made. It would be intriguing IMO, and would be a somewhat modified version of Hatton/Mayweather. I'd look forward to it.

Brit fans want this to happen because it would finally put a big name on Joes "legacy"
    Style wise,its probably a snoozer
Its going to go one of two ways
Hopkins will keep him off with the jab and pick and poke, and move him to where he wants him
    Or
Joe will swarm and just slap like mad to convince the judges with a superior work rate
A technically interesting fight, but then again so was Wright/Hopkins but it wasnt a big seller for re-runs
Could we please get some compelling new blood in to boxing rather then running these dinasoars out there
Im starting to become a Floyd fan, just because he isnt a million years old,and is good
Though as god is my witness I wanted Hatton to level him
Speaking of which Im hearing Ricky is looking for a new trainer,I think thats a great idea

well everyone thought that the way floyd fights his fight would hatton would be a snoozer where he would potshot and get out but because of hatton's pressure floyd had to fight. who knows with calzaghe's workrate bernard might actually have to fight his hardest. both hopkins and calzaghe have totally different style & neither have been dominated by any fighter so we won't be sure what fight we may actually get. with winky & bernard both having less pleasing styles everyone knew it would be a snoozer from opening bell.

I don't know why every big fight should not have the 24/7 series, I think it's great for boxing, and it will educate the casual fan about what's going on in boxing, it should not have to be a mega fight. I actually think Jones Vs Tito should have had a series.

I think the USP of the show is that it portrays one fighter as a good guy and one a villain, that is what gets the casual viewer hooked and looking forward to the fight. my dad never saw hatton fight but was on the hatton bandwagon. with jones & trinidad there is no true villain & drama on the show, the show will just be about Jones singing praises about himself & trinidad singing the national anthem of puerto rico. with calzaghe-hopkins I think Hopkins has already signed himself on to play the villain with the 'White boy incident' and with 4 episodes bernard will make sure that he gets even the pope looking forward to the fight.

Think it would be good as most Brits dont know much about Hopkins and most yanks dont know much about Calzaghe.

Yes, They make that and it will be big

Joe is a humble guy just like ricky but joe also doesnt stay out of conflict like ricky.. Ricky would never have let himself get into something like the nose to nose shit talking he and bernard did at the weight in to undefeated.. And thats whats interesting.. To a nuetral party joe is the nice guy. but he wont take any shit.. And bernard is great at making fights interesting.. Placing bets.. talking shit.. Hes just damn entertaining.. everywhere apart from the ring..Not my opinion i like bernard in the ring but not everyones cup of tea

I actually don't think it merits anything more than a standard single episode Countdown To Hopkins Calzaghe and I really hope it doesn't get a 24/7

The 24/7 shows should be reserved only for the superfights else it will soon lose its lustre.

I'd hardly call Hopkins Calzaghe a superfight, I think it's little more than an exhibition to be honest.

Mayweather Cotto should be a 24/7 and maybe Pavlik Taylor 2 but that's about it for next year.

I do love the whole 24/7 ordeal.I do like how someone already posted(sorry to lazy to look up)It gives the casual fan insight on what's going on in the fight, but don't you guys think it would do much better on say ESPN or NBC.I mean most people don't have money to watch boxing anymore simple because it's $12.00's or for both HBO and Showtime to pay $24.00.Everyone is talking on how big the Mayweather De La Hoya fight was.Just imagine if they broadcasted on basic cable and had everyone who watches T.V. looking at these guys.It might have doubled what Mayweather and De La Hoya brought that night.

Lord i hope not.......i could care less what a person eats, drives, wears etc.....aside from that another week long show of two guys saying "I'll beat you" and the other "nah i'll beat you" i could easily do without.

I pretty much agree with this. The 24/7 format is currently still quite fresh, lets just leave it for the megafights and keep it that way.

I don't know about the rest of you but I find things soon become very repetitive if broadcast all the time.

I mean I havn't even bothered to watch a single episode of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here for the past two seasons, I don't have any interest in Big Brother any more and my interest in The Contender series is fading fast.

I want the 24/7 shows to be a special series marking truly unique events in the sport.

If they started making them every time a remotely big fight came along they would just become ordinary.

As I said in my earlier post the only two fights that possibly warrant it right now are Mayweather Cotto if it happens and maybe Pavlik Taylor 2 seeing as it's for one of the boxing's most glamourous crowns (the middlewweight title) and the first fight was one of the fights of the year. I think boxing fans would love to see some background on how Pavliks's life has changed and how Taylor has responded since defeat and dumping Emannuel Steward.

There are no other fights that even come close to warrant a special 4 part documentary though.

I agree completely. But more importantly, the money is simply not there for it. This is an "important" fight for the hardcore fans, but (1) Calzaghe's last fight wasn't even PPV and even for free (on HBO) had terrible viewership numbers in the U.S., and (2) none of Hopkins's recent PPVs have done well (because, among other things, he's become pretty much unwatchably boring). This isn't a superfight. And personally, I'll never pay money for another B-Hop fight; I'm happy (actually, I'll probably be more bored than anything) to watch it a week later for free.
