Default Damn I like Kelly Pavlik

So, with Kostya Tszyu all but retired I have been looking for a new favourite fighter. I thought Hatton could have been a candidate personality-wise but aesthetically I'm not a fan of how he fights (too much infighting for me)

My favourite fighters were Tszyu and Tommy Hearns because they had one punch, concussive KO power with the right hand.

Pavlik is the same. I just had a youtube session and watched the 3 fights he had this year and he is a sensation. Pure power that lasts long into fights. He has the power to take you out at any time with any shot. Plus he seems like a top guy, like when Merchant asks him how he felt after Taylor knocked him down he says "I thought 'shit, it's gonna be a long night'"

    Got to agree.

He, along with David Haye are my two favourite fighters.

David Haye is a throwback to an era when fighters were willing to take on the best in order to prove themselves; a fighter who is willing to use his passport if necessary, to get the big fights, to make a name for himself.

If only a lot of other so-called world champions & the like were like Haye.

Im so glad we have Kelly Pavlik as our Middleweight champion because he is so exciting. No offense to Hopkins, Taylor, but they have been like watching paint dry. We haven't had exciting Middleweight champion in years its great to see and i hope Pavlik reign's for a long time.

I like Pavlik...Exciting guy with a good personality...Not cockey like Taylor or is he full of himself...Just a down to earth guy who takes care of business.....

Call me crazy but I am not 100% sold on his ability...only due to the fact I have not seen him get into a 12rd war...so far he has been able to dispose of his guys before the last bell but there will be a time when that won't happen...would love to see him down the streatch in a slugfest....I think he will do well but that will be the final test....

I have fell for guys with too much power in the past just to see them come up short in those type fights

Problem is Daxx is that no one at Middleweight can give Pavlik a hard 12 round war.

Not in the current crop I agree...The MW division is slim at the moment...I would like to see him against Wright...I don't think he would KO Winky...Winky has a jaw solid as they come....would not be the slugfest I would like to see but would tell us how Kelly deals with a guy he can not catch flush....Make him box..see if he gets frustrated..Wright is getting up there and his defense is starting to slip so if it happens it would have to be now....Like I said though I like Pavlik just not 100% sold on his skills as a complete package mainly because we have not seen him in one of those situations.....

Hell even my all time favorite Tommy Hearns came up against it in Leonard in his WW years.....

Pavlik is by far my favorite fighter out there right now. I just like his attitude, his go to war mentality, and his seemingly game, never give up approach. I usually don't like guys who don't seem to have a plan B, but he seems to just keep plodding and doesn't get frustrated with his approach, as he is 100% confident his unrelenting attack will prevail in the end, and so far it has. Watch some older vids of him, and it seems he is slower and doesn't go to the body as often as he did when he had hair Win or lose I will be behind Pavman, as he seems born for fighting and his down to earth, humble attitude, coupled with his ferocity, will keep me a fan till the end.

I like Pavlik also. He is a warrior.

Like Legion says he does appear to be slower than he used to be. I think mainly he used to throw punches, but now he is turning into his punches for more power, but less speed.

I just hope he lasts a while. Last year he had three big wars and absorbed a lot of punishment along with dishing it out. Guys like him come along rarely and usually have a very short prime.

Now that he is on top, if he could fine tune his defense a little better, he might treat us to more great fights over the next few years.

Pavlik in the amateurs was a good boxer and actually used speed more instead of power. And if you see his early fights he could put combos together very quickly and very well. And he looked very impressive you should check out his 1st pro fight he looks like a complete pro.

He seems more gangly now, longer and taller than 5-7 years ago. Obviously he still had some growing to do with his body, but he almost doesn't look to fight the same or even look the same guy back then as he does now. Seemed he was better defensively back in the day also, or at least not trying to take big shots to give them.

Knowing what I knew about this fighter some years ago, I tried to discredit him.

There is no way in hell I can discredit him today.

Am I a fan now? You bet.
I don't normally jump on bandwagons but what is there not to like about this kid who did things the hard way?

Today, I too believe in GHOST and so do many others.
