Default Witter to face Demetrius Hopkins?

I'm listening to Radio 5 Live's boxing night as I write this, and I was really surprised to hear that they're reporting that negotiations for this fight are well down the road, with a location penned in in Atlantic City on 22 March.

Personally, the Harris fight upped the ante for Witter, which had a good finish, but I really think that this one has all the makings of a snoozer, as I haven't been impressed with Hopkins on the undercards of various fights, and Witter should beat him over 12 tedious rounds, or maybe another late finish.

    Your thoughts guys?

Katsidis-Casa is on that date. Anyone know if that's a Golden Boy promotion too? Could be an undercard job?

D.Hopkins is just as boring as the old boy. I agree it could be a snoozer. Witter will probably have to KO him judging by the Forbes fight.

I think Witter needs to face Hatton. It's a real shame Hatton is scared to death of him

how is Hatton scared to death of him !? its about money for Hatton and Witter hasnt done ANYTHING outstanding in his career to get this fight. I fully support a fight with d-hop because I believe it will get a lot of american regonition for Witter. But christ Ricky Hatton is not scared of him at all, and he would knock him out.

gotta agree with u man Hattons ducked Witter his whole career, he can use excuses about
how he doesn't want to give Witter his pay day but I think he knows Witter has the style to beat him.
If Witter faces Hopkins Witter wins late ko in a non eventful fight!

Witter has got the style to beat most people...if you let him fight his fight. He goes completely into his shell as soon as anyone starts throwing back.

Good match-up and should help Witters profile abit in the States. Also it beats fighting out of Doncaster.

Only thing worse than fighting out of Doncaster is having to fight to get in to Doncaster. Seems like things are on the up for Witter...he's fighting in the States against a high-profile, if not widely respected fighter and is ranked as the second-best LWW on boxrec behind Hatton, but I really don't see Hopkins being able to up his game significantly enough to beat Witter.

All in all, come the aftermath of this fight, Witter should have a higher US profile and another nice looking KO on his record. It's showing as on the same bill as Casamayor v KAtsidis too, which should make for a good evening's viewing.

It is a Golden Boy promotion and it is on the Katsidis-Casa undercard.

It wouldn't do to underestimate Hopkins. He embraces the family trait, i.e. he never looks good but keeps winning. And while Witter did look good against Harris, it does not entirely erase the memories of three pretty pedestrian years leading up to it.

There is a notion in the UK that this is Witter's US coming out party. Presumably the Hopkins camp sees it the other way round and have identified Witter as their best chance of a world title.

If it goes to the cards, Junior better be a long, long way ahead to swing a decision.

Yeah the Kat-Casa date seemed to fit the bill.

I agree about Hopkins mob seeing it as good chance of winning the title.

As I said, Witter may have to KO him.

You know Fenster, I feel that a KO for Witter is actually not only important in securing the win (I hope we all recall the robbery of Forbes vs. Demetrius) but it may also be essential in making Junior a name in the states and securing fights with the likes of Hatton and Malignaggi.

My next paragraph is going to be controversial. Juniors style, although effective and smart, is not attractive to me or many boxing fans. There will be many who do not want to sit back for twelve rounds and see Junior contort and float his way to unanimous decisions. So I feel to win over the demanding American audience a KO is a very good result.

Remeber Naseem Hamed, who had a similar style. He appealked to the American audience, but only because he had power and could knock guys out. I feel they would have turned on him had he been feather fisted and still possessed of the same skill and speed.

    I hear ya donny

    But

Witter doesn't need to make himself a "name" in the States to fight Hatton. He just needs Hatton to listen to the British boxing FANS (not the delusional Hatton lovers) and find his bollocks.

Anyway, why is it so important the States have to buy Hatton-Witter? So we have to watch the fight at 2am instead of 10pm.

And Naz had the personality to make people want to watch him - win or lose.

Well I'd contest that it's not essential, but it is indeed desirable. From Witter's point of view it gives him more bargaining power when negotiating a Hatton fight. From Hatton's point of view it lowers the risk...He can't possuibly be seen to be in a competitive fight or even beaten by a no name fighter.
