Default Just Watching the Muhamad Ali Career Set...Man he was good..

The title of this thread sounds dumb as fuck and it probably has most of you going 'naaaah, you don't say?? Ali was good?' but bare in mind i'm a fairly new boxing fan..Only been into it about 2 years so I had a lot of catching up to do and a lot of video watching to do as well the more I heard about classic fighters/boxing moments/matches.
I've started watching the Ali career set I ordered and i've started from the tail-end of Ali's career but my god was he good..call me stupid but I didn't even think he was THAT good. I just finished watching a fight he had with some plodding white guy, damm I forget his name. Very durable guy who knocks him down but Ali knocks him out in the 15th. I'm now at round 10 of 'Thriller in Manilla'. Ali had such blistering hand speed for a heavyweight!! This is old Ali as well! I can't wait to see the fights he had when he was in his prime! If I had to pick a fault with him in his old age it was that he didn't protect himself very well when he was flurrying..Frazier has started getting to him with those long hooks.

Sorry, this is obviously old news to nearly all of you but I couldn't help but be amazed! I've never seen a heavyweight with such speed, Frazier was pretty damn fast with his hands himself (More explosive punch speed, not very fast foot speed).
Has anybody in the heavyweights been close to matching Ali's speed?

Speed wise Patterson and Tyson were one of the fastest Heavyweights ever. As for Ali watch his fights with Norton x3, Young, Cooper 1, Jones, Shavers, IMO they were all gift decisions and Ali should of lost every single one of those fights except for Jones one which i think Ali just won by 1 point. I want to see what your opinion is of these fights because they were highly controversial.

ALI vs Norton in Yankee Stadium. What was that. Norton looks like he was crying after that decision(ROBBERY). Those judges should have been put in jail for impersonating Judges. I love Muhammad but DAMN. Norton won all 3 fights.

That would be the very game Chuck Wepner.

I agree as he got older he felt that he still had the reflexes to make his opponents miss but he didn't.

No need to apologize Althugz I just wish you had been given the chance to see fights for yourself before being told the outcome of some of his figths. Althugs DON'T go looking for a result of a fight before you watch it try to watch them without knowing the end result and also grab a piece of paper and pen and try to score the fights your self. Don't be apologetic or emberrassed about it. It's always refreshing to me to see and read peoples points and views on fights they hadn't seen before. Unlike myself or others here who are biased towards certain fighters.
Coming from you it will fresh and new.

Alis handspeed was amazing and nis natural skills were bar none. As far as speed goes I would say Tyson was faster with combinations but Alis jab was thunderous....

Keep us updated here on the fights you've watched I wont comment on any of them and will let you make up your own mind on them.

Chuck Wepner thats him! Funny how Ali actually got serious after that knockdown after rounds and rounds of clowning.

Yeah man I'm pretty new to it all but once I get addicted to something I do tons and tons of research! Like my friend who has been a pretty hardcore boxing fan for as long as I can remember didn't know half of what I knew 6 months into me being a boxing fan lol..and I don't know that much!
I got the Oscar and PBF collections as well a while ago just before their fight. Would recommend them, some classics on there.

I commented on a few of Ali's controversial fights which they were thats a fact so how is that hating ?? i think your the one obsessed because you reply to every comment i make on Ali. If i think he should of lost every single one of those fights except for the Jones fight thats my opinion and im entitled to it. I think most boxing fans who have watched those fights consider them very controversial.

That's cool Althugz.... It's cool to hear this from someone knew to the sport.
The ODLH career set is one of the best ones you can get IMO. Cause you get skills plus some good KOs that and add to the fact that ODLH was able to bring in the biggest names around into the ring with him. When you get around to Oscars do another thread and tell me what are your thoughts on young Oscar.
The PBF career set is sheer skils you can see how he has evolved into what he has become today one of the greatest fighters of all time. You can see how he also changes strategies from when his uncle takes over his traning do another thread on that when you get around it.

I don't wanna overwhelm you with names (Career sets) but heres some that you should look into guess you could prioratize to your liking.... (If you don't already own them)

    Chris Eubank
    Roberto Duran
    Alexis Arguello
    Ricardo Lopez
    Arturo Gatti
    Thomas Hearns
    Carlos Monzon

A mixture of skilled fighters, brutal & thrilling wars with amazing endings.

    Ali screwed around with Wepner
That was a major league mistake,Ali was never good at cutting guys,Wepners major fault,he toyed with guy long enough, and the guy just kept sticking around, and Ali started to tire out. That was definitly a fight where arrogance could have cost him big time,Wepner wasnt good enough to outpoint him,but Ali left him with a punchers chance

I've seen both career sets already..great stuff on both. I wish i'd done what you suggested and scored every bout..Oscar from when he was younger. Hmm, he kinda kept his style the way it was because he carried his power up so well..He did go from closing the show really well to gassing out at the end of fights. Middleweight definitely wasn't for him, he was slightly pudgy. Tried to be way more aggressive against Sturm but that cost him as he was getting countered with that stiff jab all night.

That list is funny because you put Eubank top and he was my fave fighter when I used to stay up late with my dad when I was little. So his is definitely next. Thanks for the recomendations man CC to ya.

I actually too have finally watched the second ALi Frazier fight. My god I think if it was nowadays Ali should have been deducted 10 points, through out the fight for hold and pulling down on Frazier's neck. How ridiculous that was I still think Frazier was winning all three except of course the stoppage in the Thrilla.

Talking about career sets where the hell do you get them as I'm really interested in getting a couple including Mayweather's and De La Hoya's.

If you could help me out I'll give you a ton of CC'S as I'm pretty desperate, thanks guys

Cooper 1 was a stoppage and cooper 2 proved that the first fight was nothing but a lucky punch that shouldn't of happened but because ali predicted himself stopping it in 5 he actually had to carry cooper once he realized how much of a pushover he was. Ali never took his lesser competition seriously. Look at the london and williams fights. Thats what he looks like with 100% effort. That ali makes anybody look like a joke in the ring. I know the immortal holmes never had any robbery wins but then again he was pretty much shooting fish in a barrel.
