Winky Wright moaning away as per usual:declines bouts with Kessler and Abraham

All I can say is what an idiot..The same guy who declined a career high payday at a more natural weight class v Jermain Taylor,then goes up in weight and looks horrible v Bernard in a half empty stadium now declines big fights with Kess and AA which could lead to lucrative fights. Heck even if the paydays weren't great,he could beat a top contender and put himselg back in the mix. If I were him,I'd take what I was offered,he's not a big name PPV wise,it's usually the opponent doing the selling.

"Why should I go fight these lesser guys when I know I'm above them?" Wright said.

The words of an arrogant man. He's not "above" anyone at the moment,which is why the big fights are happening around him and not involving him. And I'd take Kessler to beat him.

Taylor offered Wright a career high payday. Oh and he's fighting Pavlik,to duck Wright?I think not. Calzaghe fighting Kessler to duck Wright?I don't think so.And what is Wright on top of?Last time I checked,he's only 1 place above JT and 1 BELOW AA in ring mag rankings.

I totally agree with Larry Merchant's take on this:

"He (Merchant)feels Wright is overvaluing himself and doesn't think the fighter has done anything as of late to deserve an immediate jump into a big fight. He says that Wright needs to be active and win fights in order to justify his demands."

I used to like Wright alot for his willingness to take on all comers,he needs to remember his place. He may be talented but his style is boring. People only know of Winky as much as we do because of guys like Tito and Mosley giving him a chance. He needs to remember that.If it was not for them,he'd be fightin in South Africa in front of an empty stadium. So do something to justify your claims or get the heck out of here.

And he looked very well considering the huge weight he was carrying against B-Hop. Who you all say is a great tactical fight of all time. You can't have it both ways folks.

People can't say, "Gee B-Hop is great, he finds a way to win....no one figures out an opponent like B-Hop, etc" and then in the same note say that WInky is washed up or that he is demanding too much.

The B-Hop fight was very close considering all teh illegal fouls and headbutts that was thrown Winky's way. I thought it was as much of a victory for him as it was B-Hop.

You make a valid point on the 1 hand but on the other,you make those points based on the assumption that the fights were to take place in Europe. I never saw it mentioned in the article and like I said in another thread,I've heard AA is coming US to fight someone,it could have been WInky.

And I think Kessler is going to be keen to maintain the momentum he has going,even in defeat. The point that annoys me most is that Wright talks about lsing last fights etc etc but he looked awful v B Hop so should be grateful for another chance. I mean in the case of Kessler,he could be seen as high risk,low reward because if Kess lost to him,Kess lost to an old blown up MW.

Well no-one said anything great about that particular B Hop fight other than he headbutted his way to victory and Wright should not have been fighting at that weight. But answer this: WHY was Wright fighting at the weight, when JT offered a career high payday for a rematch which wuld have done decent numbers too. Going to 170 was a foolish move from the outset.

And most thought the JT fight was close. I had JT winning by a point, but I can see a case for Wright winning. It was no robbery though as alot of Wright fans proclaim( or indeed proclaim that ALL of his losses were robberies,they were not,they were all close fights)

I wouldn't be naive. I sincerely hope AA would fight somewhere besides Europe's bosom. But I will believe it when I see. I am sure Winky was assuming that AA wouldn't leave the old country.

Kessler is a tough fight for Winky. I would hope he wouldn't fight Kessler because if he did handle him; it would be just another asterisk on Calzaghe's career that he doesn't deserve.

I think Winky isn't really worried about fighting anyone unless it is worth his while. Honestly I think he is at a point where he knows he has very limited fights left and wants to be full of reserve before acting quickly.

The last real good fighter Wright beat was Tito back in 2005 unless you count blown up Welterweight Ike Quartey. I really don't understand Wright at all not many fans find him exciting as it is, plus he always complained that he never got the chance to be a big star because he was ducked etc, yet he is turning down fights with Kessler, Abraham, that would do his career good and set up other big fights, instead he is still whining instead of being active. I think fighters should take a leaf out of Margarito's book even after the loss to Williams he is still keeping himself busy and keeping himself as a top contender at Welterweight and he has now set himself up for title shot vs Cintron. The way i see it is if Wright is going to keep turning down fights either he should retire or just stop whining and just get his a** in gear and start fighting and keeping himself active, so he can set up a big fight with Pavlik or etc.

Well its better than not fighting at all, thats the name of the game Booze. You keep yourself busy with a few gimme fights to set up bigger fights in the future. And in Wright's case he had a perfect chance to get right back amongst the top fighters fighting Abraham or Kessler and set himself up for bigger fights for the future.

If Pavlik goes to the body i favor Pavlik stopping Wright, if he doesn't then he could be in for a very tough nights work.

Sure we have a sig bet. I'll take Winky every time. Actually you are probably right about the JT rematch. But you can understand the bitterness that Winky probably experienced. I'm not sure how good the money was with a JT re-match?? On that I really am ignorant if it would have fetched more $$ than the B-Hop fight.
