Since they more than likely will not be fighting this year. I would say Cotto has what it takes to win by the time they do fight.

But whether or not he does is a impossible to tell at this point.

if they fight in the year of 2008 i go for mayweather....upto date mayweather has been in the bigger fights and has that experience....also as good as cotto is i just see floyd slighter better allrounder....would deffinately be a GREAT fight and close though IMO and Floyd would only just snatch a decision....no ko's.

As i have said before Mayweather will win but the longer the fight doesn't happen the better chance Cotto has. Cotto is getting better and better i think he would trouble Mayweather with his patience aggression similar to how Castillo did, but the difference is Mayweather is a much smarter fighter than he was then, so Cotto won't have the success Castillo did. Cotto has dealt with fast fighters well, but he has never dealt with a faster fighter who has quick footwork like Mayweather does. I think Cotto would get very frustrated because Mayweather will be on the move constantly and Cotto's rhythm will be off set. Cotto has a good jab that he uses to close the distance between himself and his opponent, but the only problem is that Mayweather throughout his whole career has countered over his opponent's jab, Cotto does have a much shorter reach so i think Mayweather will counter with a right hand over the top of Cotto's jab quite often in the fight. Cotto needs to focus mostly his attack to the body he is a very effective body puncher and i feel he will have good success with body punches. Although the way Mayweather holds his arms in the Shoulder roll defense it isn't that easy to land a flush body or head shot so that will be another problem for Cotto.

One thing that will be interesting is that Cotto does get stronger as the fight goes on, and Mayweather hasn't met anyone like that in years. So it will be interesting to see how effective Mayweather is in the later rounds against Cotto. Overall this will be a fantastic match up to see i think Mayweather wins a tough UD.

See this is the part that really piss me off and the reason i hate Mayweather, excuse me Money Mayweather Cotto is one of the most hyped of fighters i ever seen, and Mayweather is adding on to it by making people think he is scared of him or ducking him. All mayweather want at this time is the biggest money fights he can get. He don't care about making no Fu@ken history or wanting to be the best. He wants to be the richest and i wish he would just admit to it! If he fight Cotto he will beat the F@ck out of him, he will have to dig down just alittle to do so, and he know that. Cotto is not a bum but talent wise he shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Mayweather. It's other top fighters Cotto should fight first in my opinion before he even gets consideration to fight Mayweather. Mayweather is one of the best boxer ever but he don't like to dig down deep to win. He prefer to fight Delahoya who need to just retire instead and make a ton of money instead of fighting a real challenger. Fu%k you Money Mayweather for not taking the fights you should and could win. Fu#k you too for those corny ass rap songs you got and Fu@k you too for that boring a$$ fight and against Delahoya and Fu@k you too Lenard A$$ kissing Elerbee!

Mayweather would outpoint Cotto. Cotto will make it tough but Mayweather has already had excellent practice for Cotto's style by beating Hatton.

Cotto struggled against the older, slightly faded Mosley. He doesn't have the skills to beat Mayweather.

As much as people slag Mayweather off lets not forget Cotto is'nt really chasing Mayweather down to make the fight and Cotto is proving anything by fighting Gomez it is'nt a statement.
