    Default Bullies

I think this needs our support got it from Boxrec thanks

In my experience as a teacher, most people have suffered some form of bullying in their lives. I won't rattle on. From BBN:

"All of us who know boxing are already well aware of this - the sport has a huge amount of potential to be a force for social good.

The latest indicator that the general public are beginning to see the light is the launch of a campaign today by the Sheffield Star newspaper called 'Boxing against Bullying'.

The initiative - which will see boxers and trainers not just offering to teach troubled youngsters the sport but also acting as 'mentors' - is backed by the NSPCC, former Sports Minister and president of the ABA Richard Caborn and popular Sheffield trainer Glyn Rhodes. It goes without saying that Britishboxing.net lends our full support.

    Thumbs up Re: Bullies

I face a few bullies in the 6th grade. It was my first year in middle school and knew very little friends. I remember every 5th period I would get made fun of. 5th period was math class. i had to sit behind these two annoying girls. Well I forgot the other girls name, but the one that mostly bullied me was named Alma. The other girl, the fat chick was just her sidekick or something, she would laugh at everything Alma says about me.Alma would point at my face, call me monkey,or anything ugly.Alma had a mature voice and everything she said would be heard by everyone in class. Luckily others didn't laugh only that fat chick would. The others in class paid little attention to me or Alma and her friend. They would actually ask why Alma was making fun of me for.Well one day, Alma who sat directly infront of me. All of our little desk facing the front board,so she would have to turn around to look at me. She turned around and said something mean, I had finally built up the confident to answer her back cause most of the time I would just ignore her. I can remember exactly what I told her. I said, "you know your very beautiful, but you have a bad attitude". ok i don't remember exactly what I said but it was something like that. Anyways, right after i said that it totally suprise her and it kept her quite throughout the whole class. The next day, her fat friend turns around and laughs at me for nothing. Alma turns to her and tells her nothing was funny. That shut the fat chick up. From there on Alma would ignored me but sometimes i would catch her looking at me for some reason. She would sometimes smile or just quickly turn away.

Honest to god, by the 7th grade i found out Alma had a big crush on me. I had a girlfriend during the 7th grade so she didn't approach me about it. In the 8th grade though she was full blown after me. I was very into this other girl name christina though so nothing became of me and Alma. I can mostly remember during our 8th grade graduation rehersal Alma screaming out for me while I was practicing walking on stage to get my diploma. She would scream out that I was her boyfriend. Funny how things turn out

Maybe sometimes we just really have to face our bullies

That's an excellent story Julius! I agree the reasons bullying happens are strange and comlpex. I think this boxing gym idea would work both to give bullied kids some dignity and self esteem back and to put things into perspective for the bullis too. Plus kids need to have fun don't they!

    Interesting post Scrap

    Talking Re: Bullies

hmm do they know of the training practices Glynn uses? Head in the spit bucket on your birthday. Getting tied up in the ropes and pulling your shorts down for being lippy.....

I'm all for it I thought Glynn was a great trainer and the gym had the best attitude I've experienced.

Good work! As a middle school teacher, I see that stuff everyday and there is only so much teachers can do. Those kind of programs are important. I'll toss you good karma.

Scrap, I mentioned this idea to a man last night. He's head of my regions boxing authority and also the inspector for all tournaments and championships. The link doesn't seem to work for me, but if I could get my hands on the documentation, I'd make my club the first in Ireland to implement this system.
