    Default Aaron Williams

I think last night was the first time I've seen this guy, maybe I have before and just forget.

Anyway I was impressed regardless of how good Purlette is. He's pretty crafty for a young guy, does some things you don't usually see. A bit of James Toney style stuff, not really making a comparison, just has a few of those moves.

Seems pretty quick too and seems like he has a good punch although I'm gonna wait on that cause I've never thought of Purlette as having a real good chin.

With Haye out, its wide open at cruiserweight. Might be a bit too early for a guy like Braithwaite after the Hernandez fight but he should keep on gradually stepping up.

Maybe not the biggest cruiser? Hard to tell, but didn't seem like a real big guy.

Williams is possibly my favorite prospect outside of Andre Ward. Seen him multiple times. 9 national amateur titles, went without a promoter for a while before he signed to CES and has been stuck behind Godfrey and Estrada in that stable though I've got little doubt that he is the star there.

I think it's a bit to early to make a run at the division. He really fought differently last night, was on the defensive much more and didn't block all that many punches. He does have a pretty tight defense though when he has the guard up. He had it up at the end but slipped most of the punches if I remember correctly.

Anyways, he is only 22 years old, he's not small he was a heavyweight as an amateur. I thought earlier in his career that he would grow to be bigger. I think he's about 6'2 which isn't all that small for a heavyweight until you look at the guys at the top who are monsters like Klitschko.

I don't think he will move up to fast, CES promotions rarely promotes outside of Foxwoods and New England which isn't the best for a cruiserweight where most of the fights are overseas. Before this fight he had looked pretty green, and versus Purlette there was a definite improvement but I think he'll fight more guys like Purlette before really trying to move up. He said he would like to capture the title by the time he is 24 and then move up to heavyweight, well that leaves about 2 years which sounds about right. Not to far off but still a while to go.

One thing I didn't know about him even as I've been following was his power. But this is two fights in a row where he's proven to have definite one punch power. Definitely think he is someone to look out for.

    I really like Williams!!!

Great amateur background. I think he finished up 93-10. Thats a great foundation to build on. I've seen 5 of his fights. I remember one was on the Brinkley/ Spina under card I think. He's also trained by Mustafa Muhammad.

    Thumbs down Re: Aaron Williams

I learned about Aaron through amat when he mentioned him sometime last year. Then when I saw he was fighting on FNF last year I caught his fight on there seeing him then to now I can say he's much improved.

He's pretty small for a Cruiser but maybe with time he can fill in.
