    Default Miguel 'The Merciful' Cotto.

    Miguel 'The Merciful' Cotto.

    Miguel showed nothing but MERCI.

Too bad Alfalfa did not have the agallas to come off his stool.

I wonder if Alfonso still thinks Cotto took short cuts?

That fight should have been stopped sooner. His father should have stopped it or the ref. Boxing needed Larry Hazzard.

Cotto could've made it a lot worse. He really took his time and let Gomez off the hook most of the time. The second real knock down was from a jab.

did you see it when the doc came in and said he was gonna stop it, gomez's corner said "one more round" what morons why they let it continue as long as they did is beyond me.

I actually thought the ref shouldve got his ass off the camera between every frickin round.

Gomez was dominated, but was far from physically destroyed. 2 of those knockdowns seemed like they were a result of Gomez's horrible balance. Cotto is an accumulative type of power puncher, not a one punch jab power artist as Gomez would lead us to believe!

Don't be harsh on the kid Danny...He went for his...He showed more heart them many of these grunts out there...Just doesn't have the god given tools to get in with that caliber....I thought he would make a decent showing of himself and not be manhandled so easily but what are ya gonna do...

At least he did not cry like a certain former champion named Cintron

No doubt. I'd rather see a kat picked up game and lose than watch a rough cur win. Cintron wouldn't even look up at Tony when he was on the canvas. At least Gomez never quit; his body got owned, but not his mind. Hats off to Gomez for giving it his all.

Okay, I wasn't going to say anything at first, because I didn't want to be critical, but phuck it, after watching the fight for the 3rd time, I'm pissed that Gomez Sr did not stop that fight.

That fight should have been stopped much earlier, probably in the fourth when Alfonso was taking a lot of punishment.

I know he believes in his son, and that Alfonso always says that he would die in the ring if he had to, but phuck that, and phuck pride in this situation. That is your son out there, and is pride worth your sons life, or having him receive any permanent damage? Could Sr live with himself if something terrible happened to Alfonso, and he did nothing to prevent it?

And I couldn't believe when the doctor told his corner that he was stopping the fight, they were saying to give him one more round. What the hell were they thinking?

Can you imagine what damage would have been done if the fight continued? Thank God for that doctor for doing what his father should have done, and that's stopping the fight.

Alfonso is also extremely lucky that Miguel decided to be more of a boxer last night, instead of a brawler, that beating would have been worse if Miguel would have done the seek & destroy like he did against Judah.

i would have called time on it after the 4th, no pint letting gomez go out and continue taking punishment. gomez did well against a shot gatti but my goodness cotto took it all out of him. bad call by his corner letting it go beyond the 4th

Gomez has a ton of heart and it wasn't all his fault that the fight got stopped.

I like it when Miguel fights like that, he was slow, deliberate, and effective. When he forces things, that's when he gets hurt.

Heres what I posted in another thread.

Gomez has no shame, I mean the people who were on here talking about upsets and Gomez having a chance or Gomez wining rounds were just talking out of their ass. If you couldn't see Gomez was outclassed then you need to rethink the way you view fighters. The margin between Gomez and Cotto was f***en huge. Tackie and SSM are f***en worlds apart. I would have Gomez take a short recess and then bounce back late this year Oct./Nov. I would like to see Gomez face off against any of these guys:

    Isaac Hlatswayo
Soto Karass (How would you like that Gamo?)
    Delvin Rodriguez
    Sebastian Lujan
    Jesse Feliciano

Hey you saw how he fought vs Gatti and only higher level fighters really dominated Gatti even though Gatti was shot it was still a meaningful win over a good fighter. Gomez also had the size to really absorb more punishment than most of Cotto's opponents but apparently not

    Gomez-Cintron wouldn't be too bad
