Default Where does Cotto's left jab rank among active fighters?

To me, the most startling difference to Cotto's game is just how destructive his jab has become.

A few years ago when he was a prospect, he had a good jab, but everything revolved around the left hook to the body. Now his jab is the punch he builds everything around. He throws it with speed, with accuracy, and it lands with the power of a right cross.

So, where does Cotto's jab rank right now among active fighters? The best? 2nd best behind Wlad? Top 5?

    To be fair...
It's undoubtedly one of the best I've seen
It's remarkably precise & powerful, and not to mention, painfully fast!

He is beginning to use the jab more and make great use of it...One of the best in the business....Sorry but no...To have a great jab you need to make it your primary weapon...The jab when used properly will win you a fight and make your nights easy...EG- Larry Holmes made a career out of a jab....

In time Cotto's jab assuming it keeps getting better like it has been will be one of the best actively in the game...IMO he is just starting to realize how effective and how much of an asset it really is

His jab is good and it's beneficial to what he does but it's not the best....but props for saying Wlad's is up there because it damn sure deserves to be.

I haven't seen Cotto ever throw a punch that he didn't mean to hurt someone with

Then what current fighters would you list as having better jabs than Cotto?

Off the top of my head in no particular order...

PBF (sorry Danny)...Wright, Wlad, Taylor, just to name a couple....I am not going to make a list of everyone with a better Jab then Cotto's...

His jab is getting better and starting to become a factor....I already said that in other post in this thread

It's def. one of the best in the bizz.
Wladdys jab has to be up there.
Winkys slowed down a bit but it's there.
    Calderons jab is so accurate.

Certainly Cottos jab is up there with those.

One of the best jabs I've seen that never get's mentioned is Junior Jones jab. My god was it lethal. Strong, precise and accurate.

What makes Cotto's jab so impressive is not that's better than so many other fighters, but rather that it comes from a guy who fights low and is known for power and the left hook. He's a little like Frazier in that regard. Frazier had a very good jab for a guy who fights short. You expect a good jab from a slick boxer or a tall fighter. You don't expect it from Cotto.

Oh you are the biggest tool..mentioning me as a Cotto hater? Find me one post where I havn't given him credit for what he has done or said that he was slow, one dimensional and all he does is hit people in the balls and back? I don't irrationally hate on a fighter...i'll leave that to you and your Mrs (Aka That dummy account you created to throw us all off the scent that you're actually a fagg who masturbates over your Cotto collection)

It's a shame because I really do like Cotto but it is going to be too priceless when Floyd beats his ass just so you can shut the fuck up

Oscar definitely had a great jab in his prime. The Oscar-Quartey fight was one of the best jab matchups of recent times.

Well personally i think Mikkel Kessler, Rafael Marquez, Jermain Taylor, Wladimir Klitschko, and Floyd Mayweather Jr when he uses it, all have better jabs than Cotto. But the best jab i've ever seen at Welterweight is Ike Quartey's it reminded me so much of Larry Holmes's jab, and also a close second is Hearns's famous flicker jab.

Yes it was, Quartey has one of my favorite jabs of all time.

Anyways, I would definitely consider Cotto's jab among the best which is amazing because I never saw the jab as a primary weapon until the Quintana fight. I think this goes to show how great of a fighter Cotto was. A lot of people with his type of power stop improving, Cotto has been improving ALL THE TIME and constantly tightening his defense and developing that jab which he cemented as one of the best in the Mosley bout.

And like you said, he might have P4P one of the more forceful and hard jabs in the business.
In no particular order and off my head I'd say the best current jabs in boxing belong to these bunch.

Wlad, Wright, Kessler, Mayweather, Rafael Marquez, Nonito, Cotto and Cunningham.

Other guys like Lamont Peterson, AJ Banal and Andre Ward have very good jabs but aren't at that level yet.
