GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGNS "THE HAYEMAKER"

One of the most charismatic athletes to hit boxing in recent memory, London's David Haye not only packs a huge punch and outstanding boxing skills, but also possesses the willingness to take on all comers and the ability to capture the imagination of fight fans around the world - traits that have led him to 20 knockouts in his 21 victories and the undisputed cruiserweight world championship. As he now embarks on a quest to become Heavyweight Champion of the World, "The Hayemaker" has signed with Golden Boy Promotions, the premier promotional company in boxing, as his exclusive promoter in the United States. Former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman is expected to be his first opponent.

If he can get a good HW fight or 2 under his belt against solid competitors, I'll promise to get off his back for his antics. I may even chase down Wlad myself if it happens to urge the fight on. I just really want to see this division get put back on the map for the mainstream audience. It's been a while...

Good first fight but I would most like to see John McDermott knock him out

I feel the same way. And this is why Haye is a good thing for the heavyweight division, he brings excitement. People just want to see him fight.

I can imagine our 14 year old patriot clinging on to Wlad's leg as he walks on.....

I forgot where I read it, possibly ESPN, but I think he is contractually obligated to fight one more fight in the UK then it's off to America.

    I agree

though i honestly dont believe that someone who claims he only has 2-3 years left in the sport is wise wasting 4-5months for a british title fight.

Id get him over to america right away and not let him come back until he is a proven world champion.

Start him off with a name he can put on to his cv just to forward advance his career that extra bit, an andrew golota perhaps just to show the US audience a bit of what they can expect and progress haye into the division.

To fulfil his ultimate goals in the division haye has to be fighting 3 times a year solid for the remainder of his career

I'd kick that sunnamabiatch Wlad's azz myself, but I'm sure he'd prolly duck me, just like everyone else does! Is okay though, maybe Haye will still be around when I get there...

Yes, I agree he does have to move fast and fight good people. With the weight thrown in this divisions punches, you don't want to be catching too many of them in the melon for too long, and in too many fights in a year if you don't have to...

also though, I don't put a lot of credit into Haye's words regarding the 2-3 year thingy. He may mean it, but I cannot see a fighter who if they get to the pinnacle of the boxing world, being able to walk away and stop fighting when they could be in their prime, for both pride and money reasons.

If Haye fights Rahman we will find out 1 thing for sure and that is if his chin can withstand heavyweight punching power. Rahman though he is fairly shot can still bang a bit. Haye will make for some good fights at heavyweight but I still do not think he will be able to take it to the big hitters like Sam Peter or Wladamir Klitschko. The body mass is just not there for him to do so. As a boxer I have never seen Haye really posses great boxing skills to get him by. He hits hard at crusierweight and that seems to be his ace in the hole. Can he bring it to the heavyweights is our question. We will find out soon enough I guess.

Hopefully the Bonin fight indicated that Haye can carry his power effectivness up to the heavies. I don't know how tough Bonin is, but it was good to see him get the job done where it took Audley 8 or 9 rounds I can't remember.

I think (and hope) Haye's power will trouble the lot of the heavies providing he can land, which with his speed I'm sure he will be able to do. Wlad is the main threat as he has good boxing skills and hides behind that long jab, he's pretty fast and athletic too, but its good to see a boxer wanting to go and take on the very best. Thats what Haye is all about.

Rahman, although a good name is definately on the slide as mentioned, and this is why i keep bangin on about Haye to go for someone like Chris Arreola. Young, undefeated, banger and american. If he beat him by KO it would make the americans really sit up and take notice.

I dont think Rahman will find his chin . Hasim has become very lazy and is a pretty slow starter. When Haye fought Bonin ( who wasnt known for being chinny ) the speed got to the pole. I think Haye could catch Rahman cold and if I was a betting man Id put money on a victory inside 2 rounds.

Dan Goosen says Rahman-Toney's pretty much a done deal so who knows.
