What percentage of you are grots?

Ok i've had a few flatmates and a mixture of both genders.

I'd say I've had 4 clean female flatmates, 2 disgusting female flatmates, two clean male flatmates and 2 not so clean.

Thing is the girls who were disgusting were also complete bitches and i think they were fully aware of the fact they left the cleaning to me. They just assumed I would always do it and thought they had some sort of queen bee position in the household.

The grotty guys i think actually thought they were clean. They just literally didn't see the marks they left on the inside of the microwave or the dribbles on the couch or the fact their dog shedding a kg of hair in winter meant it needed a wash and would then be ok.

Their intentions were good they just lacked the ability to see their mess.

The two clean guys were partially clean because they ate a lot of take out and just didn't use many dishes. One had also spent some time being whipped into shape in the army.

I'm not a neat freak but I resent cleaning up after another person too much after a while. Plus the place i'm in at the moment is small so any mess really fills up the space quickly.

So I'm advertising my spare room now and i don't know whether to select female only or just go for either.

I suspect i'd be more likely to get a clean flatmate if i select female only but if i'm being irrationally sexist and i'm wrong i'd like you to tell me.

So honestly guys - how many of you have or are told by your girlfriends / mothers etc you just don't see dirt?

Do you think it's fair to say a greater percentage of guys who would be looking to rent a room in an almost fully furnished place are perhaps going through a stage where they're more likely to be grots?

I don't really know so i need some male input here please.

I'm a grot. Once a grot, always a grot. A grot may clean up for a while, but will eventually fall back into old habits. It is more likely that a grot will see his dirt but decide that it is not significant. Unless you keep telling him, but you don't want to have to do that do you?

Ive never had lady friends say I obviously don't see my dirt, but I have had one or two tell me I don't seem to mind a little dirt.

If you are a clean freak you will be setting yourdelf up for a lot of aggravation if you don't choose your roommate carefully. But you already know that don't you? I suspect a grot may not admit it to you, and may mistakenly tell himself he can change, if he really wants that room.

A man is more likely to be a grot, IMO, because men are more likely not to sweat the small stuff, compared to women. IMO

As soon as I saw you had posted in the thread I figured you were going to be a neat freak .

I'm somewhere in between, but I stray more to the grot (nice word, never heard it before) side of the spectrum. I notice the dirt, but I'm just too apathetic to do anything about it most of the time.

OCD neat freak I go on cleaning rampages late at night sometimes; it's quite humorous to watch or so says my girlfriend....I'll clean out cabinets just to reorganize them haha on legion.....though I do have a bad habit of throwing clothes on the table in a jumble, but everything else is orgamized to the point of being extreme.....And having cobras as pets drives me crazy as they crap all over their cages and destroy everything, so I am always having to reorganize them

Damn I thought I had a theory when you replied CGM but now both Legion and CutMeMick are clean freaks - 2/3 - i'm not sure!

Thing is i suspect when you have your own place and you take pride in that you may grow to be cleaner than you were before - you may have more pride in your own place than a room you probably won't rent for more then a year max.

I know in another thread you've claimed one of your hobbies to be doing up you place CutMeMick so i'd guess it's nice and you're pretty proud of it.

Likewise Legion just from knowing you have a collection of snakes which are kept in proper cages I imagine your place to be like a snake show room with a similar amount of pride there.

Were you both clean before you had your own place and developed your own personal havens? Would you be so oderly in shared accomodation?

I was actually more of a neat freak if possible when i lived alone...My girlfriend is clean no doubt but she doesn't freak out over stuff like I do.....I'll arrange all the water bottles on the shelf so they are all perfectly aligned and each one is facing out lol; sh#t like that ya know? On days with big fights I have alot of nervous energy so I will clean just to do it or i'll bite my nails off

Well I overindulge on coffee or hide under the covers of my bed or buy dark chocolate when I'm freaking out so all things considered I think you have a pretty useful way of dealing with nervous energy in comparison to me!

Actually being from a farm originally I am familiar with most types of mammalian poop plus some marsupial poop - i really can't imagine what snake poop is like in comparison.

I've probably seen it but never actually seen it created so i didn't realize what it was from.

Damn I sound like plopeater!

I hope at least it's relatively small and easy to scoop out with a poop scooper or something.

The interior of my car gets a clean out about twice a year, and generally has at least one piece of rubbish added to it per day.. On occassions the rubbish has filled the entire rear feet wells both sides up and over seat level so that no one could even get in the back. The front wasn't much better. The ashtray would have about triple it's capacity of cigarette butts jammed in and spilling over the edges....
I will mention nothing about the condition of my bedroom.

Im a pretty tidy person , i hate clutter arounds the house , but we have a maid who cleans and irons etc , so house is always pretty clean.

Both my study and my bedroom got trashed for the month or so before exams, they are becoming progressively cleaner at the moment though. My shaving gear is all over the bathroom counter, although when I had to share it wasn't. When it comes to my own personal area it's messy, but I try to keep it reasonabl-ish in combined living areas.
