Who is to America like Hatton is for the UK?
Who is to America like Hatton is for the UK?
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
I voted Shane because everyone likes him, or at least respects him. All races and ages want Shane Mosley to win because he is a boxer/puncher who is exciting and will fight anyone.
"If there's a better chin in the world than Pryor's, it has to be on Mount Rushmore." -Pat Putnam.
Thats quite hard to answer, America doesnt really love or cherrish its sportsmen like the Britts do theirs but I think the closest would have to be Pavlik, he has a local following and has the white boy that can fight bit down too
Saying about Britts loving their sportsmen, thats not always true, they have to earn it otherwise they are despised, like Khan is.
Eubank used to be until he was humbled in his last few fights and then people got behind him.
I know I used to hate Calzaghe and alot of people here think im a fan but he has earned that respect out of me, at first I couldnt see the big deal, I remember when Eubank was gonna fight him and id watched his televised fights leading up to that, he fought some south American bloke and slapped him around with arm punches till the ref jumped in and I thought "big deal, Chris will eat him up" Then fuuck me if he doesnt drop Eubank in the first and just works and works and works Chris over!!
The Kessler fight really made me admire him, for all is techinal defficiencies he fights like a man who has to win and thats whats got him where he is, no complacency, working hard every round of every fight.
Hatton gets respect because he is so fan friendly and accessable, he also used to throw some nice combinations that caught the eye, like Tysons old right hook, jump to the left then right uppercut, I used to dislike him as well and wrote him off in the Tszyu fight but anyone who can work Tszyu over like that and take his power has a bit of something, look what Tszyu had just done to mitchell!!
Haye is yet to really earn any sort of following at the moment he bugs me, gives it all the chat but has already been shown up by an old Thompson, he may win me over in a heavy title fight but I have a feeling he wont
If Froch was to beat Kessler then he may win me over also but again, I dont see it happening.
I used to hate Hamed with a passion but as soon as he went to America, I actually found it funny that he still acted the wanker, fought like a diick and still knocked out a few good names, like he could just fight how he wanted and find some power, until he met Barrera that is
No shame in that though really, as Hamed was shown to be poorly prepared but he never took the rematch so must have robbed him of his confidence but I think if hed have actually boxed instead of believing his power would get him through I think he could have done Barrera, Marco has said that Hamed was stronger than Pac and when you see his legs its not hard to believe but his stupidity and arrogance with his power made him so easy to hit and he was always off balance and made to look stupid all the time but thats why I found it funny, he could do that and get away with it for a while![]()
A rather underwhelming response here.

Hopkins shows what hard work will do for you even if you should be in a rocking chair watching fights rather than being in fights.

No clear-cut answer. Nobody possesses the same combination of charisma, likeability, and skill like Hatton. There may be some truth to the song: "There's only one Ricky Hatton..."
Pavlik would have been without the Hopkins loss and may still be providing he comes back to string together a few wins. Pwill isn't there yet. Dawson may be the truth, but isn't quite there. PBF is disliked by most people. Arreola is far from there and to be honest, no matter how talented or likeable he is, I'm not convinced Americans are ready for a Mexican American to be the US-version of Ricky Hatton. I am, of course, but the average American may not be.I'd love to be proved wrong. Although not on the list, Jermain Taylor, assuming he can beat the competition, could be the next big American star because he already has some notoriety.
I was going back and forth between Hopkins and Mosley. Because of Mosley's steroid controversy I'll give the edge to Bernard.
Plus, Bernard is proving that age is just a number. Yes, Shane is old too but Hopkins is WAY older.
Hopkins is a self-exposed racist ex criminal that thinks it's fine to cheat and play-act to win.
I think Mosley is a genuine nice guy (shame about the steroids).
Forrest is a nice guy too. And Pavlik.
Oscar is Americas equivalent of Hatton though.
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
"Floyd needs to inject Xylocaine into his balls to gain the courage to fight Pacquiao."
- and I quote from some random guy on the internet
Yes it would be Mosley minus the steroids
Pavlik was on verge of being it and hopefully he can still get there - seems like an all round nice guy and exciting fighter with a hell of a punch.
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
Imposable to say,America isnt a unified country
Mosley I HOPE! He is a happy, go lucky fella who always has a smile on his face, he is humble and respectful and from that list he is the obvious choice.
People who think Hopkins best represents their country have a low opinion of the US. He is a gobby, cocky loud-mouth Kunt!
Tell us how ya really feel Kel....What exactly is 'Gobby' ?
Im split on Hopkins and Mosley.Mosley is an all around class act inside and outside of the ring.I'll leave the steroids maybes and maybe not for those that want to flaunt it.A very reserved guy though but clearly not all about himself compared to Hopkins.
Hopkins ,while fully content to stroke his own ego, also shows that a once street tough can come from the lowest of depths and stacked odds, commiting a crime...doing his time and never repeating his errors.Maintaining tip top form of mind and body in chossen profession, earning his millions at it and defying the odds makers and doubters when many had written him off....insert rolling eyes anywhere lol....but clearly yeah, quite a cocky dude.Trashing the flag of Puerto Rico was crappy also.
