Default ESPN in UK? Live boxing?

Anyone know if the new ESPN channel will show live boxing or is it just football?

Steve Bunce said on his last radio show that ESPN have no interest in showing boxing.

    What is Buncy's radio show?

ESPN showing some boxing is the big question for me, will it be on cable is the other, big factors in me going back to the devil in the Sky.

cant see them opening a whole new channel and not having various other sports on there.

If they can copy setanta`s model and manage their finances a whole lot more sensibly then i see no reason why they wont eventually catch on to the boxing

Buncey's radio show is on BBC London. He's been doing the boxing hour on Thursday nights.

I'm sure Bunce has been in touch because he wants the pundit job so if he says they're not interested they're not interested. Looks like Sky is the only game in town for British fighters and promoters now. Bugger.

    not neccesarily

there are a ton of other main uk boxing pundits other than bunce that would be in for that kind of position could it become available

The new ESPN channel is also in an agreed partnership with sky which setanta wasnt at any point. Bunce and sky have huge disputes relating to a few years back hence the reason he may be throwing rubbish already

It doesn't matter how mant potential boxing pundits are out there, one pundit we know has asked them about whether they're going to show boxing has been told no.

ESPN are renting their satellite platform from Sky, just like Setanta did.

Cant see it really, ESPN have taken over the football rights as football is probably the biggest most profitbable sport in the world, unfortunatly boxing isnt, and Setanta went skint for the simple fact they invested in to many sports that are not really that popular to the general public as a whole.

Boxing as the ppv figures have shown for fighters like Khan and Hatton is not that desirable in the uk especailly when you have to pay extra for it and in the current financial climate.

I think Setanta probably lost alot of money they invested into boxing with all the different promoters rights they had like Hayemaker top rank the german firm etc etc.

ESPN Premier League football to be free for first month on cable

Disney-owned ESPN makes introductory offer on new UK subscription Premier League football channel

Disney-owned ESPN is launching a new UK cable and satellite subscription channel, and a high definition service, to carry its 46 live Premier League matches and 30 Scottish Premier League for next season on 3 August.
The 2009-10 season starts on 15 August, when ESPN will have live coverage of Everton v Arsenal, hosted by the former BBC presenter Ray Stubbs
Under the deal, Virgin Media's 3.5 million cable TV customers will gain free access to matches aired by ESPN during August on both its standard and high definition channels.
After that, subscribers to Virgin's XL TV channels package will get ESPN's new UK sports channel and its archive programming service, ESPN Classic, free. This is the same arrangement Virgin Media had with Setanta, the former holder of the Premier League and SPL rights that passed to ESPN after the Irish pay-TV broadcaster went into administration in late June. Subscribers to Virgin Media's M or L packages will be able to subscribe to ESPN's new sports channel for £8 a month, if they already subscribe to any combination of the Sky Sports services, or £10 a month if not.
Yesterday, ESPN announced that the sports channel's football coverage would be extended to include matches from the top-flight domestic competitions in Germany, Portugal, Russia and the Netherlands.
The US broadcaster has also secured the UK and Ireland rights to air the remainder of the Major Soccer League competition in the US, featuring David Beckham's LA Galaxy. The first matches from these overseas leagues will air on ESPN from 7 August.
Following the demise of Setanta's UK business, ESPN won the right to show 46 live Premier League matches for the 2009/10 season, and 23 matches a season for the following three years.
Earlier this month, the Scottish Premier League's 12 clubs agreed a £65m deal with Sky and ESPN to screen 60 live Premier League games apiece each season for the next three years across the UK and Ireland.
