    Default ~Saddos 2009 Boxing Awards~

    What's good people.
Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been around much lately but knowing that the year was coming to an end I just had to make sure I was here to host the Annual Saddo Boxing Awards.

This year will mark our 4th Annual ceremony. We've held ceremonies in the USA, UK and France.

This year we will make our way to:
    Sydney, Australia

Get your passports ready cause we're invading the Aussies...
I hope you can join us for the total piss up/fuck up we'll be having.
(I'll post links of past ceremonies)
More details to come on this years ceremony, for now I leave you with the rules and catagories for this years awards.

    RULES:
    - Categories will be listed and you can ONLY list 1 nominee per category.
    - Any modifications made after the specific ending date will be void and your entire post will be removed.
    - Voting will begin TODAY Dec. 11th and the last day to vote will be Dec. 30th
    - On the 30th I will lock this thread and tally up all the votes I will also make a new thread for the actual award ceremony.

*Voting tip: Make an initial post right now and vote for whichever category you already have a nominee for then as you make up your mind comeback and edit/modify your post.

If you have any questions feel free to ask if you don't understand something.

    Here are the categories:
    1. Fighter of the year
    2. Fight of the year
    3. Round of the year
    4. Knockout of the year
    5. Upset of the year
    6. Comeback fighter of the year (This means a fighter who cameback from having bad years to make a comeback to the spotlight in 2009. This does not mean a "comeback" in an actual fight)
    7. Event of the year (It could be a fight for Ex: Pac vs. Cotto. An event that took place that had an impact in the sport)
    8. Worst fight of the year
    9. Prospect of the year
    10. Robbery of the year

    Here are the categories:
    1. Fighter of the year: Manny Pacquiao I can't wait for anyone to vote different
    2. Fight of the year: This is going to be hard for me. Mtgawa-Lopez a real sleeper pick but I'm not making a decision yet. Diaz-Marquez
    3. Round of the year: Bradley/Peterson round 3
    4. Knockout of the year: Margarito-Mosley. The last punch that dropped him was the best, and a very good way to start the year off.
    5. Upset of the year: Miguel Acosta KO9 Urbano Antillon. That was stunning to me. It's not that I'm surprised that Antillon was beat, I just didn't think it would be like that and definitely not by the hands of Acosta.
    6. Comeback fighter of the year:
    7. Event of the year : If Pacquiao-Mayweather is made official before the end of the year, that's it. Otherwise I'd say it was the formation of the Super 6. Tomasz Adamek fighting Bobby Gunn in New Jersey was great aswell.
    8. Worst fight of the year: This is going to require some thinking. First one that jumped to my mind was Green-Sims.
    9. Prospect of the year: I'd love to say Rico Ramos, who I'm a big fan of, but I think it has to be Erislandy Lara. Guillermo Rigondeaux and Korobov canidates too.
    10. Robbery of the year: Carl Froch SD Andre Dirrell. Stickin to my guns, U-S-A.

    5. Juan Carlos Salgado vs Jorge Linares
    6. The Super Six
    7. Miguel Cotto vs Manny Pacquiao
    8.
    9. Andre Ward
    10. Joan Guzman vs Ali Funeka nothing can beat that surely

    The rest need some thinking.

Good. Sydney, Australia. No plane ticket required here.
    These are mine (thus far):

    1. Fighter of the year- Timothy Bradley. I won't vote Pac while he's refusing more conclusive blood testing (I previously had him as my FOTY). While I would like to believe he's done everything clean, I have always wondered about PEDs and this saga just reinforces my worries. Back on topic, Bradley has proven he belongs in the elite few.

    2. Fight of the year- Diaz vs Marquez. Very exciting fight, at a very high level of the sport.

    3. Round of the year- Round 1, Victor Ortiz vs Marcos Maidana. Both fighters down. Both are ferocious punchers. Need I say more?

    4. Knockout of the year- Marquez knocks out Diaz. Great uppercut and great ending to a great fight.

    5. Upset of the year- Antonio Margarito vs Shane Mosley. Dominating performance by Shane. Margacheato just couldn't get off.

    6. Comeback fighter of the year - Floyd Mayweather. Assuming this counts. He did come... back... and in dominating form.

    7. Event of the year - Plaster found in Margarito's hand wraps. This ended his cheating-spree (one assumes) and let the sport progress (albeit, maybe a little late for Cotto).

    8. Worst fight of the year - Timothy Bradley vs Nate Campbell. Don't only end the fight early and take away Bradley's probable KO, change his win to a NC because of Don King's influence.

    9. Prospect of the year - Anthony Peterson. A great prospect, who seems to have the similar tools to his brother.

    10. Robbery of the year- Kermit Cintron vs Sergio Martinez. Poor Martinez was robbed twice in this fight.

Carl Froch vs Andre Dirrell as robbery of the year ? come on fellas i admit i thought Andre Dirrell won, but only by 2 rounds at the most, it was mostly an ugly fight and Andre Dirrell should of pressed more, especially when he had Carl Froch gone at one point in the later rounds.

Joan Guzman vs Ali Funeka is a pure robbery, it was no worse than 8-4 for Ali Funeka, and Mike Arnaoutis vs Tim Coleman deserves a mention aswell.

When I voted for Froch vs Dirrell as Robbery of the Year, it wasn't that it was the fight with the score disparities farthest from the truth, there were OBVIOUSLY much worse robberies in that respect. It was, however, at a very high level of the sport. It was also in round 1 of the Super Six, a very prestigious tournament; thus it sets the bar low for judging in the remainder of the tournament. IMO, Dirrell obviously won that fight. I don't have any idea how Froch fans can defend that win.
I thought we were just voting here. Not having to defend every one of our nominations
EDIT: While I stand by the fact that the Dirrell/Froch fight was an absolute robbery, due to the reminder of Martinez/Cintron (where Martinez was actually robbed TWICE in that fight), I'll have to go with that.

1.Fighter of the year- Pacquiao hard to argue with what he accomplished in 2009

    2. Fight of the year- Cotto/Pacquiao

    3. Round of the year-Rd 9 Mosley/Margarito

    4. Knockout of the year- Mosley/Margarito...

    5. Upset of the year- Green/Jones.. Not so much that Jones lost but how easy and fast it happened

    6. Comeback fighter of the year (This means a fighter who cameback from having bad years to make a comeback to the spotlight in 2009. This does not mean a "comeback" in an actual fight) Shane Mosley..He went from hanging on by a thread in the twilight of his career to the man who beat the man no one else seemed able (RegARDLESS of handwrap issues)

    7. Event of the year (It could be a fight for Ex: Pac vs. Cotto. An event that took place that had an impact in the sport)-The return of Mayweather of course, even if no fight with Pacquiao produced on paper or he lost to Jmm, his return brought the idea of almost mythical matchups alone

    8. Worst fight of the year- Jones/Lacy

    9. Prospect of the year- Lamont Peterson

    10. Robbery of the year- Guzman/Funeka,

    1. Manny Pacquiao, no way this can be argued.
    2. JMM vs. Juan Diaz
    3. Round 9 Berto vs. Collazo
    4. Randall Bailey over Franky Figeroa
    5. Andre Ward over Mikkel Kessler
    6. Shane Mosley
    7. Pacquiao vs. Hatton
    8. Froch vs. Dirrell
    9. Saul Alvarez
    10. Mike Arnaoutis Loses SD to Tim Coleman (With Guzman/Funeka at least he got a draw and not a loss)

Since the year isn't over yet, I may change my mind.

    1. Manny Pac
    2. Diaz v Marquez
    3. Hatton/Pac round 1. It almost killed me.
    4. Hatton/Pac again. I give credit where it is due.
    5. Ward was pretty surprising.
    6. Mosley fits well, shame he didn't do much for the rest of the year.
    7. Hatton/Pac was the big one for me.
    8. Froch/Dirrel was a good call. I will go with that.
    9. Not too sure.
    10. Funeka/Guzman. That shit was disgusting.
