Default Not enough action during sparring?

I'm still new to boxing. In my last few sparring session, there hasn't been much action. I'm sparring against people much more senior than me. I'm very patient these days. My defence is reasonably good, so opponents want me to throw the first punch so they can counter off of it. I try to do the same thing, which ends up with neither of us throw many punches. When they try to put the pressure on me, I just dance away. When I put the pressure on them, they block everything, then I back out.

Is this a bad thing? Are we both being too technical? Are we both being too careful? My coach, who's normally shouting a lot of instructions, doesn't say much from his corner, so does that mean he's getting bored?

    Maybe the trainer is asleep.

If you really want more action: Have a go at half steps and making contact with just his lead arm, not his head and then step in on his reaction to you making first contact. Know what I mean? break up the range into two parts contact range and head and body contact range. Work on disruption of his movement or balance at the first contact range and move in on the automatic reaction you get. Their elbow is their balance point and also a point where they cant throw at you from, if you got your glove planted down into it. Easier and more fun to do when you are both in opposite stances, cause its in the outside of their elbow. Even a little push to it, puts them in reaction mode.

    I can explain it.
But I cant understand it for you.
