Wink Serious Question... What was John Ruiz' best performance?

Again, this IS a serious question so Fantana need not respond

No, really what has been John Ruiz most effective display of boxing? I'm not really after his most exciting fight... Just a fight that would be a great starting point for someone (like me) who hasn't really taken much notice of John Ruiz over the years (except for when he got his arse handed to him by a pair of middleweights).

    Thanks guys

I would have to say when Ruiz knocked Fres Oquendo completely out about 5 or 6 years ago. That was impressive.

I figured Oquendo would surely win that one.

Hmm, id completely forgot about the Oquendo shot and with how almost out he had Holyfield, im starting to hope old man Ruiz can do a number on Haye

I mean, positives for Ruiz are Haye still hasnt really had to fight a heavy, he ran like mad from Valuev and barely got touched and valuev isnt a big puncher for a heavyweight, let alone a 7 foot 2 heavyweight

Ruiz has been training for 4 months straight for this and lookied ok stopping Adnan Serin in has last fight, the same show as valuev v Haye.

Ruiz can wear down Haye and if he lands its quite possible Haye goes down yet again!!

Just looked at the odds for Ruiz, in each round its 50 to 1 and round 12 is 60 to 1, thats worth a fiver on every round because I think Ruiz will stop him

probably his first fight against Holyfield. Holyfield had just come off the back to back fights with Lennox Lewis, so he was still considered, at least the 2nd best fighter in the world. Ruiz lost the decision, but probablly should have gotten the nod in this fight.

That being said all of Ruiz's win are ussually pretty cheap with his throw a punch then run in and hug style, and the above fight was no exception.

Thanks mate. That's the fight I have loading up on Youtube now... A stinker no doubt but I assumed it was against a fairly live opponent at least.

Cant remember which One it was but he had Holyfield falling over and grabbing his laegs and the ropes and anything to survive the fight, Ruiz even dropped to all fours and crawled away from Holyfields holding

If he can drop Holyfield, maybe everyone who cant stand Haye will have a laugh when Ruiz drops him as well

I don't know about his best performance, but I know what was his greatest accomplishment. He was the 1st Puerto Rican champion that his people really didn't want or even associate with. That's a hell of an accomplishment especially coming from the Ricans that love their boxing champs.

John Ruiz when he totally outclassed a prime Jameel Mcline, the guy who decked the seemingly unhurtable Samuel Peter. Many people wrote John Ruiz off, not I. John did what any great fighter does, he won.

Remember he was coming of the back rip off decisions here, a warm up fight with Otis Tisdale whom he just outgunned in 2 blistering rounds.

You also need to remember, John Ruiz knocked out Tony Tucker. Lennox Lewis could not do that in his first title fight (which he got $9 million for, the highest purse for a first defense at the time, not sure if it still stands) and neither could Mike Tyson. What does this tell you about John Ruiz?

Anyone who thinks Haye has a chance against John Ruiz doesn't know anything about John Ruiz. I suggest you go watch 300, with Gerrard Butler, who does an outstanding job of representing John Ruiz for the silver screen.

John's boxing skills are massively underrated. It's extremely difficult to win fights without even throwing a punch, yet win he does.

I'd urge anyone to watch his last six, maybe seven, fights back-to-back and tell me that he isn't ferocious on the inside!!

Yeah I would have said the first Holyfield fight as well. Nothing spectacular from Ruiz but a decent showing.
