Ted’s heart gave out. He was 90 years old. Mike Silver has written a beautiful and moving obituary.
As an aside, Ted managed to go the distance with Marciuano twice.

From my second book:
Ted Lowry (alias Tiger Lowry)
There wasA pretty good 500 hitter who fought between 1939 and 1955. He did battle with fighters who had colorful monikers including Italian Jack Dempsey, Young Dempsey, Irish Johnny Smith, Charley “Hobo” Williams, Deacon Johnny Brown, Jimmy “Gunboat” Davis, Charley ‘Doc’ Williams, Saint Paul, and Young Gene Buffalo. But he also fought the likes of Tiger Jack Fox, Lee Savold, Lee Oma, Archie Moore, Billy Fox, Phil Muscato, Roland LaStarza, Jimmy Bivins, Bernie Reynolds, Cesar Brion, Joey Maxim, and Harry Kid Matthews. Oh yes, he fought a young and up and coming heavyweight by the name of Rocky Marciano twice in Providence, Rhode Island and lost both times by UD. He was one of only four fighters to last the distance against The Rock and the only one to do it twice. Indeed, he gave the Rock all he could handle. He also held a nail tough and prime Roland LaStarza to decision wins twice.
During a four month period beginning in November 1950, he fought Marciano (29-0), LaStarza (41-1), Bivins (74-18-1) and Brion (28-5). He last fought on July 7, 1955 and retired with a record of 67 (43)-67 (3)-10. Yes, out of 144 fights, he was only stopped three times. He finished with a record of 67 (KO 43) - 67 (KO 3)-10 in 144 bouts. Ted Lowry was as tough as it gets.
