    Default Showtime Bantamweight tourney...no Donaire

So showtime will be doing a 4 man Bantamweight tournament which includes Vic Darchinyan, Yonnhy Perez, Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares. Hopefully with only four it doesn't turn out like the Super Six. A little suprised Donaire is not in this, but should still be some good fight none the less.

Showtime bantamweight tournament set; semis are Dec. 11 - ESPN
lets just hope it's cause he's already signed to fight Montiel, other than that, no real excuses to be made

What a surprising shocker that Donaire isn't in the tourney!

Donaire's career up to this point has been a disappointment especially after knocking out Vic.

yeah, donaire is another one of those extremely gifted fighters who will only fight fighters 2 or 3 divisions below him like manuel vargas and hernan marquez. these fights were complete travesties and just proves my point that donaire' career has been a very carefully protected one. since his win over darchinyan, it is vic who has gone on to win other titles and fought tougher opponents. who has donaire fought since he beat vic? for that, i hope montiel knocks the fuck out of this fraud.

I'm guessing Arum is playing a part in who Nonito fights, from all accounts I've heard Nonito isn't really afraid to fight anyone. Arum has both Montiel and Nonito, IMO clearly he wants them to fight under his banner instead of putting them in a challenging competition where they could potentially lose to somebody outside of toprank.

From what I've read, the Donaire-Montiel fight isn't happening until the beginning of next year. Big disappointment. I doubt Donaire is afraid of anyone at that weight, but at the end of day, he must accept blame for not fighting anyone worth mentioning.

I understand Arum's logic. Montiel and Donaire are the best of the bunch, ranked highest p4p, and other than Vic, are the biggest names in the division. I wouldn't understand the logic if Showtime offered Donaire and Montiel more money than the rest. At this point, I favor them over all four of the other contenders.

i'd favor donaire over any super flyweight but not at bantamweight. at bantam, there is hasegawa, mares, montiel and yonnhy perez who i'd favor over donaire. joseph agbeko would also be an extremely tough fight for donaire as well. here's my thinking, if donaire didn't fight anybody at the lower weight with lesser opponents, what makes anybody think he will fight the very best at bantamweight? and please don't give me this excuse that nobody wanted to fight him because that's a bunch of bull crap. again, donaire has all the talent in the world but he's afraid to fight the very best!

Didn't he KTFO Darchinyan who was undefeated most feared fighter at 112?

I think nobody is afraid is of nobody. I've seen Donaire called out numerous big names on his post fight interviews. But politics is getting in the way.

    pac,

i said donaire hasn't done anything SINCE beating darchinyan! now, having said that, i really do not believe he's "scared" of anybody but it seems to me he sure likes fighting boxers a lot smaller than he. it's really a shame cause he's a very talented fighter. i mean, he's got height, reach, mad speed, footwork, power (both hands), defense, etc.... it's a shame that he's already in his late twenties and he hasn't done more since darchinyan.

As of right now Donaire is the most overrated fighter in all of boxing. He has one significant victory. In the long run he might prove to be great, he has a ton of skill, but right now he should be considered a bit of a disappointment.
