Going down and getting stopped

Recently I've seen quite a few fights where one guy has been knocked down, got up and gone on to win by stoppage. Groves being the most recent.

It's made me wonder, are stoppages by the ref more common now than they used to be?

There have been times recently where I've actually shouted for a fighter to go down just to not see it stopped as I knew they could get back up and give a decent go of it, but you could see the ref watching very closely.

It seems fighters don't want to give up any rounds these days....sometimes if you're hurt you need to take a knee. Obviously you can't do it continuously or the ref will step in, but if you get your bell rung it's better to take a knee than catch a punch you can't react to
