C'mon man - Rocky has to be in the HOF!! He beat Apollo Creed (twice, the first was a ripoff), Clubber Lang in the rematch, and Ivan Drago! Name me anyone with that kind of resume!!

HAHAHAHA!! Don't forget his work as a trainer, training Tommy Gunn. Seriously how is he getting in though? Anyone know?

Stallone is getting inducted because Rocky has probably inspired more people to take up boxing than any real fighter ever has.

Yeah - it was impossible to see those movies in the theater (I know, I'm old) and not come out throwing punches.

    Sly Stallone? lol

HOw about Robert Deniro going into the boxing hall? His portrayal of Jake Lamotta in Raging Bull was just gold, much better than the Rocky movies too.

Default BHOF What the F**K ???

Before we go any farther, I just want you to digest that headline for a minute. Yes, the man who played Rocky — a boxer from a fictional movie — was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Along with Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Kostya Tszyu — you know, real boxers who actually fought in the ring — Sylvester Stallone is getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. Have you any idea how absurd that is?
Stallone is an actor. He played a boxer in a fictictious movie. Sure, he played in a series of movies, and they were great, but none of it was actually real. It’s an insult to guys like Tyson, Chavez, and Tsyzu who all actually were beat up on the ring and administered beatings, that someone who did nothing gets in.
If boxing inducts Sylvester Stallone into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, where do we go from here?
Does Adam Sandler gain induction into the Golfing Hall of Fame for his portrayal of Happy Gilmore? Better yet, maybe he can go into the College Football Hall of Fame for his role as Bobby Boucher. Screw it, I’m nominating Jake Taylor for Cooperstown. And after that, I’m making sure Butch McRae makes it into Naismith. And I won’t sleep until Forrest Gump makes it into the Table Tennis Hall of Fame (if it exists).
Honestly, Sylvester Stallone into the Boxing Hall of Fame? What a joke. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Stallone being included is ridiculous IMO. I was listening to the all-sports station yesterday, who never talk about boxing, and they mentioning this as another example of how out of touch and absurd boxing has become. Then they spent the next two hours talking about Canadian football...

    I'm like borderline on Sly...
A part of me is OK with it but another part isn't.

i know what you mean, but lately the way i see it is, if sports writers and people from the media can get into the BHOF, why shouldn't Stallone? i mean if you really think about it everyone who's not a hardcore boxing fan associates boxing with the Rocky movies, the Rocky theme is now iconic as is his montage run up the stairs, i wouldn't doubt a bit that there have been dudes who've become interested in the sport just cause of the Rocky movies, also add in Stallone's work with The Contender series which did up to a certain point bring boxing back into the mainstream a bit, yet i do think there are others more deserving

It's fine he got inducted. Sounds a little silly when one hears it, but he's done as much for the sport as anyone possibly could without being a fighter or directly involved in it. It's not like the hall is exclusively reserved for fighters/trainers there is already others in there.

I think Stallone is a great addition. How can anyone argue against the Rocky film's contribution to boxing?

It's called the Boxing Hall of Fame, not the Boxers Hall of Fame.

It's to honour people of all associations to the sport, fighters, trainers, promoters, cutmen, matchmakers, referees, commentators, sports writers etc.

People get honouray degrees from universities, this is the same sort of thing.

Very good and worthy addition and will make for a tremendous weekend for those lucky enough to attend. Rocky and Tyson together, for most of us that's our childhood hero's. That's an awesome awards ceremony for any fightfan to go to.

I think that's spot on. I've read lots of fighters saying Rocky got them into boxing. He's clearly influenced millions more than certain writers and journos have.
