    Default Solis, wtf happened?

Solis suffers serious injury | Sky Sports | Boxing | News

Sounds like he's suffered some severe ligament damage in his knee. It didn't look like he got hit at all, it was even less of a punch than the one that Danny Green KO'd Paul Briggs with.

Was it just sheer bad luck that his knee popped? Was it caused because he's out of shape? Was he hurt by a punch?

It was just so bizarre. I thought Solis looked good up to that point too, catching Klitschko flush a couple of times and taking advanatage of his slow ponderous style and low guard.

He definitely doesn't strike me as someone who would take a dive so I hope it was a just a freak accident and he can come back strong.

I expect his stock seriously fell after that however, might be a long road back...

His promoter said he was injured before the fight and hoped the training and muscle would hold it up. Guess they miscalculated.

If that's true it makes Oner's statement that he'd stop promoting heavyweight fights if Solis lost just ridiculous.Obviously its a bullshit statement and he won't stop, but it makes me wonder why he felt confident enough to say that knowing Solis was entering the fight with an injury that could potentially flare up mid-fight

Maybe to cover his tracks incase he was blown out? Just seems a dumb thing to say, let alone a careless thing to do sending in a gimp fighter. He sort of negates any excuse admitting

That could be the best thing for him. He needs another couple fights against increasingly difficult opposition before he's ready for a title shot IMO.

If he had come in in shape I think it might have been interesting. Vitali was wide open to those shots and Solis was catching him.

He really doesn't seem to have any ambition though. I can imagine him being quite happy with his 1.8 million payday. He's financially comfortable already and hardly looks like somebody hungry for anything other than food.

He's got the potential to be a champ but mentally I can't see him doing what is required. He'll have to really change things if he's not going to be written off already. I think he'll end up in the same no man's land that Chris Arreola is now fighting out of.

Maybe, he's a lot more talented than Arreola though. He looked pretty upset at the way the fight ended, and if he really commits himself in the future this loss could be the best thing for him.

i thought solis was winning the round

it looked like it could have turned into a close fight

i cant remember vitali losing a round since he fought lewis

maybe solis doesnt have the punch resistance to fight at that level which is a pitty coz he seemed to have everything else

Well if the promoter knew of the injury before hand then it was mighty stupid to allow Solis to continue the bout.

If he's torn ligaments in his knee then he's going to have less power, less mobility.....his career may be over.

I don't know what to make of the fight, Vitali landed a right hand of course Solis' knee buckled as he was moving away, but hell he looked hurt (in the head) and his left leg didn't look that steady either.

Of all the results I hate that this one is the final outcome for Solis and for Vitali....who could now take another fight before Adamek.

I would figure you would choose to believe that right uppercut thats slightly grazed Solis fully KO'd him.

The fight shoulda been a No Contest. Instead it was hailed as a mighty Klitschko 1st round KO !

Either way it was a fuckin disgrace and not Vitali's fault that Solis hurt himself, or reinjured himeslt. Absolute farce of a fight, and Solis was looking good in there, coulda given Vitali a good fight who knows.

    Damn shame.

It was the right call. Punch lands, fighter goes down without push, feet stepped on etc. Gets up, claims injury, ref really has no choice. Another example of why instant replay is a must for refs. What's the alternative, postpone ruling until an x ray? Slippery slope, fighters could start claiming secondary injury like crazy.
