I thought experience goes a long way? Experience is experience isn't it?

    Few problems -

    1) you're not experiencing how to use the ring, when you can't cut space off or you have too much space to back pedal then bad habbits happen

    2) who are your mates? Are they accomplished boxers? If not, what will you ve able to learn from each other? Will you be able to work on focused and controlled goals or will you just be trying to hit each other with little thought outside of that?

    3) is it safe? why risk spraining an ankle if you trip or landing on a hard surface or sharp object?Does the risk of long term injury really outweigh the benefits?

    4) who is going to be offering an outside insight and giving guidance? Obviously not a coach - if they cant add anything then development will be minimal

    5) who is going to keep unbiased control?

IMO its a bit of a waste of time and a risk.

Floor drills outside of the gym would be a better option.

Can you give us some good floor drills to work on?

Sounds like you want to use your boxing experience to beat the shit out of your friends.

If they are mouthy twats then I fully encourage this behavior.

If not, then shame on you Mister.

I dont think its a bad thing aslong as both guys know what they are doing, and if there is a 3rd guy (who also knows what hes doing) who times the rounds.

Seen a few injuries like in the garden, most we used to do was pad work and hard circuits

It's an unrestricted, uncontrolled, bias environment. You will develop bad habits, I suggest not doing it.

Plus you'll fall out with your mates when someone takes it to serious.

    Sparring

Controlled sparring - almost shadow boxing and almost sparring, try experimenting.
both practice shadow boxing facing each other but far enough away not to land blows
then practice jabbing and pretend blocking and pretend slipping punches.

If you both are able to control it then try it, if not do not waste your time.
BALANCE, LEVERAGE, ACCURACY, SPEED and TIMING - Effective punching.

it isnt the best idea, you would get more from being in a ring in a controlled environment

but its all experience that will probably help quite a lot

its like kids learn how to play football in the street, theres no nets lines or refs

i dont think it would be a waist of time

i spar and i get a lot from controlled minimal contact sparring

i get a lot lot more from sparring when my opposition is trying to batter me even when they are being a bit wild
