    Default Sturm vs Macklin

    Boxing - Sturm vs Macklin?

Looks like WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (35-2-1, 15 KOs) will defend his belt against Matthew Macklin (28-2, 19 KOs) on either June 25 or July 2 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. Macklin pulled out of a WBA eliminator against Khoren Gevor on April 16 because of a contractual dispute. Looks to be a good move as he will now go directly to the title shot.

Sturm too fit, too strong, too good.

I think the difference in skill will be huge, i agree he is underrated.

Macklin has looked very average last few fights, he needs all his potential to be realised on the night if he is to win.

    sadly agreed

for all macklins agression and determination he just doesnt quite have the technical ability of the likes of sturm

quality fighter who arguably got robbed on the biggest stage of all by the 3judges scoring that de la hoya fight. To be fair to oscar though he was never a 160pound fighter
    one dangerous horrible bloke

Sturm is a quality fighter, but no way is he underrated. He hasn't fought anyone in the top ten since DLH. There is only so long as loss to DLH can sustain your credibility. He tells the world he's leaving Universum because he wants tough fights. Then he fights Ronald Hearns Jr. Really? For the amount of time he has been in the upper echelon of middleweight fighters, he has really faced a pretty low level of competition. I hope Macklin wins.

Nicely played by Macklin. Sturm's best days are long behind him and although I am sure he is a rich man, he could have really cashed in if he would have fought somebody with a pulse over the nearly 7 years post Oscar. Instead he milked the Oscar fight, threw legacy out the window and completely fooled the German public into thinking he was anything but a paper champion.

Good to see Macklin having something go his way as recently he's been more than a tad unlucky, like most I think Sturm will just have too much for him but I'll be backing him to put on a good show of himself.

Does Macklin have a chance? I'm surprised he isn't getting more publicity on this site. Will he do any better than Ronald Hearns?

Most Brit fights on here get watched by only a small number of the same faces. Most on here wont know or care much about Macklin.

I don't see how Macklin is going to win this fight? Maybe he can force a pace Sturm can't handle? Doubt it though. Sturm by late stoppage or landslide PTS win.

the one thing i can say about macklin is that since he has been at middleweight he has suprised me in fights i thought he might find much harder

he has also struggle in fights he should have found easdier mind

lets hope he has one of those suprising nights

him and barker were talking about a unification if both come through their world title fights (barker martinez obviously)

if that happens i will eat my hat, although if it does i will enjoy the meal

I saw that the other night on Saturday Fight Night and I, literally, laughed out loud. There is more chance of me flying to the moon on a broomstick than there is of Macklin winning in Germany and Barker beating Martinez anywhere. Still, bless them and their little fantasies.

They should've fought each other twice now but Darren Barker kept pussying out.
