Billy Costello Passes Away at 55

Ex-WBC champion Billy Costello dies of cancer at 55 - ESPN

In his fighting years Costello always struck me as a good guy, maybe too nice to be a fighter. He was good, not great. he beat a couple of fine fighters in Saoul Mamby and Bruce Curry.

He was probably best known for the loss to Alexis Arguello in one of Alexis' aborted comebacks.

Billy Costello is one fighter that I have never ever seen box but read his book which was really interesting. He sounded a really good guy and was helping the local community. To die of lung cancer at such a young age is really sad. I remember one line in the book as he was a rising young prospect, where the opponent was calling him all the names under the sun, and he said he stopped him in the first round.
