    Default Katsidis vs earl

Just seen katsidis vs earl on box nation there, seen it ages ago on youtube with no sound, at the end of the fight when earls trainer says do you want to continue and he says its upto you thats what you get payed for, i was like what the hell the fighter should be saying hell yea i want to continue let me at him, and i know its easy for me to say this because ive never had a fight but surly if your a fighter you got to have balls to go to war with people, just wanted to see if any other people thought earl kind of wanted to quit.

I think he showed enough balls in the fight. He knew he wasn't gonna win. He took a a terrible beating.

Micky Vann (the ref) throwing the towel out the ring, followed by Earl staggering Katsidis, made it utterly memorable, but really just prolonged the absolute shellacking Earl got.

Earls trainer, Johnny Eames, refused to train him any more after that fight. Earls next two fights ended with him being sparked in 1.

Good job Katsidis didn't get even longer with him.

Maybe Earl was looking for a way out, maybe he just wanted to leave it in his trainers hands. Either way like Fenster said, he was getting pounded on by Katsidis & although he gave himself a chance the end wasn't very far away

that wasnt the only time they spoke about pulling him out tho

his trainer mentioned it a few times and earl said no as far as i remember

so the conversation went something like

im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - dont - im stopping the fight - alright thats what you get paid for

    get me?

I loved that bit by the ref at the time.. But with hindsight especially it was an incredibly poor move, he should really have been penalized heavily in some fashion. A good trainer knows their fighter better than anyone and throwing in the towel should always stop the fight then and there. Possibly the ref felt that Earl still had some kind of prayer, but he more likely sided with the crowds(and his own) wish to see some more bloodshed rather than Earl's safety, which is quite appaling. It strikes me Earl or his trainer couldve easily taken the fool to court had they wanted to.

I get what your saying, but a fighter will normally always say don't stop it. If the corner wants to stop it, they should just stop it, you put your trust in your corner & leave those decisions to them. A fighters first instinct will be "Your not stopping anything" so asking them is really pointless, if the trainer feels his boy has had enough he should pull him, no discussion necessary imo

Yeah that Ref overriding the corner did end up the larger question on the night.

It's really not even a question, just completely out of line imo. Would be like a referee not allowing a timeout in a playoff game or something because he felt that someone was about to score, what the hell was he there for.
