Default Cotto says if the fight's not in New York, no fight!

This is real bummer as this thing is going to be a war. I can understand Cotto wanting to have fan support but to completely not want to fight seems a bit extreme.

    Thoughts?

Well Cotto has never had trouble with the NYSAC so I would assume he trusts their judgement more than anyone else's and if Toni can't fight he can't fight.

    I still wouldn't mind seeing Cotto-Floyd...but that's just me

Arum was talking about moving the fight to Cowboy's Stadium in TX, so it's a bit understandable why he wouldn't wanna risk having to fight Margarito in TX, IMO personally the fight can be in Margarito's living room and Tony is still gonna get his ass whooped

Yeah the only way that would be worse is if Laurence Cole was the ref

There is a possibility for Tony to lose, that is, if this time around Miguel's punches actually hurt him.

Hopefully Margs gets licensed, would be a shame if this fight doesn't happen.

his right eye isn't going to hold up, the real question is will Margarito's punches actually hurt Cotto now that he has no plaster

Then why would Cotto make the statement that he wont fight anywhere but New York? A chip in the armour in my opinion. Tony still has a mental edge in the fight.

has he only fought in NY? no, but the only OTHER place Arum has mentioned as an alternate location for the fight is TX, so it's not too complex to see why Cotto wouldn't want to fight Margarito in TX, Malignaggi/Diaz I anyone?

Maybe he's looking for more money if the fight is to be somewhere else. It could be good leverage. He has a point: he signed up to fight in New York. He didn't sign up to fight elswhere. Part of the reason behind the fight being in New York is that the crowd will be largely Puerto Rican and pro-Cotto. Were this fight to change locations that will likely change. Maybe he wants the crowd on his side in the later rounds. Nothing wrong with that really.

I think the fight and event are far better in New York because the fans all know Cotto and will really be into the fight so I hope thats where the fight is made. If not Phoenix would be cool cuz thats not too far from me and i may jump on it as tickets will prbably be cheaper so as to sell quicker.

and now the real reasoning comes to light haha, no joke if the fight wasn't in NY, Vegas or Atlantic City would make sense, both big venues and will sell out

I grew up in New York and no one can tell me that place is anything bur pure adrenalin. You don't have to be Puerto Rican to have followers. There is a larger Mexican contingent in New York than in many other states as well so the rivalry continues. I expect Cotto to win because ever since the illegal wrapping was found, Margarito was never the same but this fight must take place in New york for the simple reason that Cotto is the draw and both men have something to prove and most importantly, no matter where the fight takes place, the crowd has to stay at their assigned seats. None of this takes place if the physical does not give the fight a go.

Haha the real reason for what?? I wonder just how much fighting in your preferred place makes a difference for a fighter or how much having the crowd on your side hekps a fighter. For some fighters I think it would be alot but Cotto doesnt seem like the type who would need the crowd on his side. He's pretty no nonsense so makes no sense why he wouldnt be just as comfortable in Vegas, Houston, or LA.

yea i know what you mean, the crowd can be a negative for some fighters for example, Juanma Lopez, he gets too into the crowd and then gets reckless, but other than the reason I stated I don't see why the fight can't happen in Vegas or Atlantic City
