    Default Good film franchises

My Bond hate thread got me thinking about film franchises and wondering which ones actually worked.

The Rocky ones are obvious and I like them. Then there is The Godfather. Jaws was an obvious case of seriously diminishing returns.

So anyway, a franchise thread. What film franchises do you think work well? And which ones are less successful?

Back to the Future is the greatest film franchise ever. Each film is fantastic. I wont discuss this any further!!

    Bourne franchise worked well.

Jurassic Park, not sure on this one, loved the 1st movie but thought the following one's were abit kak.

For horror movies, I liked the Nightmare on Elm Street movies above all others.

Cheech and Chong worked well, enjoyed all they movies!

Good call, they are really fun films.

Rambo first blood was good, but it went a bit mental when he decided to take on the Soviet Empire. I didn't bother with the new one. Just seemed a bit silly at his age. Mind you I liked the last Rocky film. I'm a sentimental fool at heart and thought it was nicely done.

Indiana Jones is an obvious one. Shame about 4 though.

Yeah those Bourne movies fit perfectly together.

The modern Rambo was hilarious. Remember back in the day Rambo was highly criticised for the level of violence. They were clearly taking the piss with the new one.

I watched ALL the Superman films on Sky over a couple of days when I was ill the other month. Superman 2 is still awesome.

The LOTR trilogy is probably the greatest trilogy of films ever made.

Pirates and Transformers maybe the shittest?

I enjoyed the Terminator films, except 2 which I hated for its sentimentism.

Oh, and although the third and fourth films weren't the best Aliens 1 & 2 are fantastic films.

The extended edition of Aliens was one of the greatest films ever made.

Note I didn't say imo. It's not a matter of opinion, it's objective fact. Only Greenbeanz would venture to disagree. He probably touted it at as the best film ever for 15 years though, watching it both in English, Mandarin and Spanish, plus carrying out exhaustive research into the alien anatomy until he realised it was actually a shit film, full of plot holes and contradictions after all.

Cant believe I didnt think of LOTR.

I did them all in one sitting long after they were released, an epic day.

I have never said imo in a post ever. Cinema is dead, and you are still a cunt.

    .
I went to Toys R Us to get my nephew an Arnold Schwarzenegger Terminator action figure.

I couldn't find it anywhere, so I asked a nearby assistant where they were

"Aisle B, back", he told me

Fantastic call on Superman. I have those and for sure 2 is great fun. Zod is one of my personal heroes. Hilarious character. Superman 3 is also decent enough, but a bit wacky with the whole supercomputer thing. 4 is a clear level below, but it had no budget and got hacked to pieces in editing. It has a couple of moments, but was not given what it deserved.

Also check out the Donner Cut version of 2. I think I watched that after MarkTKO mentioned it. It's a quite a bit different and shows you Donner's vision of how it was going to be before he was fired. It's well worth a viewing.

Some cracking films going around here. My vacation begins today, so I may well spend the first week getting hold of all these films and watching them. I know most, but haven't seen some in years.

I'm sure they showed that Donner cut on TV recently. But I didn't realise at the time I just thought something was different.

    Terminator = awesome.

When I was a kid I watched the Star War films a few million times. Empire Strikes Back different class. Don't like the prequels
