Default Gamboa free from Top Rank -- what's next?

They settled Top Rank's case against him and he's now a free agent. What fight should be made? Broner in the fall? Get one of the top 122ers to move up (though this probably permanently scotches any remaining possibility of a Donaire fight)?

I still wish he had gotten the chance against Brandon Rios, even with the weight against him he would've whipped that clown. Donaire is clearly the most intruiging fight for him imo, but Broner would be a solid fight as well in which I'd back Gamboa.
I'm not familiar with a few other guys at 122 who are supposed to be very good, anyone who'd stand to beat Gamboa you think? If Moreno was a little bigger or had fought there then I'd love to see that fight at feather, but it'd be way to much for him to just skip bantamweight with his style.

I think an all-Cuban battle with Rigondeaux might be a toss-up. Rigondeaux is better-skilled and has better defense but Gamboa is definitely more dynamic, explosive, and powerful (notwithstanding that last KD-filled Rigondeaux fight, which was an outlier).

No idea how Rigondeaux slipped me, that would be an awesome matchup of course. Rigo looked great in his last fight, although Kennedy didn't offer much of anything to really guage how he would handle Gamboa. I guess the same is true in reverse somewhat, Gamboa has certainly never fought a boxer on that level and has some big holes in his defence.

Oh lord unless I seriously misjudged rigo, I think he would spank gamboa. Boxers eat these type of fighters alive. Now if you could have an amalgamation of Gamboa and Rigo...dare to dream.

Stylistically, you're probably right, but we've certainly never seen Rigo face anything like Gamboa or even several people Gamboa has already gotten through. Yuriorkis also does have real skills himself when he needs to use them. It's a fantastic match up, but probably unlikely to happen anytime soon.

gamboa needs to get back in the gym. he needs to lineup a tune up fight ASAP.

He isn't young(31 I believe). has been sitting for 9 months already. He needs to get his career restarted and fight often.

He doesn't have forever left. He better go kick ass and make money while he can.

The pessimist in me doesn't think we see Broner-Gamboa for a while. Is Broner affiliated with the Mayweathers?

I don't think you'll see a fight between rigo an Gamboa , when rigo deflected he stayed with Gamboa in Florida , they been in the Cuban team together in 2004 Olympics , both won gold rigo 54 kg , Gamboa 51 kg I presume they now each other inside out

Lets hope Gamboa can re-start his career, he is a quality fighter. A warm up and then fight for a title. Love to see him beat Broner.

Depends on where his weight is. If he makes 135 still, call me nuts I'd like to see he and Demarco mix it up. I honestly give Demarcos straight stiff shots and hook a chance on a seemingly accident prone Gamboa. Gamboas defense is not so hot.

maybe Linares if he can string up 5-6 wins against good competition and get his mojo back together.

Almost without exception all the best possible matchups for Gamboa are contracted to Top Rank or GBP. Gamboa is apparently going to sign for Mayweather Promotions. Seeing as how Arum and GBP almost never make fights between the two firms how likely is it that they're going to do a deal with the Mayweathers? Gamboa could be going down a dead end here and at his age time is not on his side.

Money talks so matches will be made.
