    Default Maidana vs. Mayorga

    I say why not ?

Maidana is a free swinging brawler himself, yes he's smaller than Mayorga, but Maidana was willing to fight Canelo so I could see him going for a fight with El Matador at 154.

He just rejected fighting this 17-0 16 KO's Thurman fella who is a super welter as it wasn't a "tune up" fight.

Mayorga is the tune up for the stars so lets get it on !

Seriously though I think this would be a fun fight, honestly if Maidana stays at 147 there aren't many top guys he can beat there and I like Maidana a lot.

Maidana pulling out of the Thurman fight was a straight bitch move. Not that I think he was scared of Thurman. I seriously doubt he was. But how you gonna pull out of a fight that's 3 weeks away for no fucking reason?

    Sidenote: Maidana-Mayorga is just dumb.

The boxingscene article claims that the Thurman fight was never officially made and he's not promoted by Goldenboy. Seems Maidana didn't like his chances against the guy though.

Its not any more dumb than Maidana wanting to fight Canelo at 154 and having no chance what so ever.

Maidana and old Mayorga could make for a good fight and it would sell.

Didn't maidana have similar issues a couple years back where a fight was announced but he actually never signed it...he should move back don to 140 his style is not suited to move up weight...fighting mayorga is stupid what's the benefit in beating him nowadays?

The benefit is $$$ and I think Mayorga would win. It would be an entertaining brawl while it lasted.

Yeah I forget which fight it was, but Maidana wasn't happy with his promoter and there was a big story about it a couple years ago.

I was gutted when the Guerrero vs. Maidana fight was cancelled last summer as I had bought tickets to see it in San Jose. Guerrero probably would have outboxed Maidana, but it still would have been a good fight, especially when Seth Mitchell vs. Mike Mollo was on the undercard.

Yeah but losing to mayorga at this stage wouldn't be good for his career and would diminish future earnings, altho only reason id favor mayorga is sheer size. I hope maidana isn't in the middle of some promotion issues again and hopefully we get to see him back in the ring soon, especially cause I don't think he will go on all that long.. I remember he mentioned in an interview that he does not like to be a fighter but its what he knows...

It's even more stupid than Alvarez-Maidana. Which is pretty stupid in itself. But Alvarez can make 154. There is no way in hell Mayorga can make 154. What they gonna do? Fight at 160 or higher? Come on now.

And the fight wouldn't fucking sell. Mayorga is always the B side of a main event. Maidana ain't a big enough name

    The fight wouldnt sell?

Granted its usually well known names that Mayorga gets headlines for gobbing off with but Mayorga would sell anything, anywhere with his act. Mayorga can also make light middle easy.

If you believe his twitter account is real, I saw on it a few weeks ago Mayorga asking Alex Ariza if he would work with him.

Mayorga should retire from boxing. I do not think they could fight at Welterweight, Mayorga is too old to make that weight and Maidana is too small at light middle. Also Maidana is too young to start fighting these novelty fights and should concentrate on serious challenges in the division.

I don't really see the point, Maidana's only chance would be in the event Mayorga has nothing left whatsoever. What weight would they meet at anyways, Maidana is way to small to move up to 154 and its no sure thing Mayorga could even make that.

I'd like to see Maidana go back down to 140 and fight Matthyse or even Zab Judah, those would be really fun fights. Mayorga would stand a decent chance against Bundrage if he continues fighting, that would probably be easy to put together.

Mayorga just fought Cotto at 154 not that long ago so I don't know where all this fear of him not being able to make 154 is coming from.

I agree Maidana is pretty small to face Mayorga, but I still think it would be a tear up.

And yes I would love to see Mayorga vs. Bundrage or Kirkland vs. Bundrage or Kirkland vs. Mayorga.

The Bundrage vs. Mayorga bout was rumored to be in the works a year ago but that fell thru. Same with Mayorga vs. Rubio at 160.

Mayorga has piss poor management and discipline too.

Oh, what a burn... Between us, I only meant Ross.

I liked Mayorga a lot to, just not sure how many more good fights he can be in honestly. There aren't a whole lot of guys he'd match up with around the weight. Bundrage is really crude and crap to watch, I think Mayorga may still have it in him to beat him and that gives him a belt.
