Default Robert Guerrero vs. Selcuk Aydin Saturday night fight/chat thread

Guerrero is one of my favorite fighters, Selcuk Aydin"Mini-Tyson" is an undefeated ( 23-0 (KO 17) Turkish fighter living in Germany, who might give Guerrero a bit of grief.
Selçuk Aydin - Boxrec Boxing Encyclopaedia

I like guererro too but have no clue what he's doing going from lightweight straight to welter, he wasn't at lightweight all that long...and feels like its been a while since he had a fight.

I'm tempted to take Aydin in an upset. Mainly due to Robert's inactivity & Aydin being a natural welterweight with a physical style. It wasn't that long ago Robert was at 130.

If Robert adjusts to the added weight he'll outbox Aydin. I'm just wondering why he would skip an entire weight class

Good question, you'd think Guerrero might stop and have a few fights at Jr. Welterweight or a few "adjustment" fights @ Welterweight before jumping right into a title fight.

Guerrero seems to have done a lot of shouting out and complaining of not getting big fights, then when he gets one he pulls out. To be fair to him, I actually think he's the kind of guy that just craves the big shot and will take any opportunity to get it, any opportunity being a Welter match-up with Aydin. He also is in no position to be picking and choosing opponents.

I like Guererro, just got fed up with him and his incessant calling out of people he had no business calling out, seen as he hadn't barely even fought. Only a win over a faded Casamayor, who actually put him on the seat of his pants, and thoroughly outboxed Katsidis and gave him a pasting. I'd go as far as saying that neither of these bouts even come close to readying him for a genuine Welterweight contender like Aydin. He's not great by any means, but quite a powerhouse.

Guererro needs to find a home and fast before people dont care about him anymore. I really cared about watching him at 135, now, who knows...

Don't expect the upset - I haven't even seen Guerrero fight but if he can box even just a little bit then he'll have a field day with Aydin.

Aydin just thinks he can blast anybody out with power and doesn't bother setting any shots up. He can't throw a straight right hand, it's always looping (I call this "Chisora syndrome") and so, so telegraphed. Horrible style.

He has had supremely bad luck with injuries over the last couple of years. Not his fault. And I can't blame the guy for self-promoting and trying to land big fights. It's what everyone does. He's trying to make a living.

I'm just happy to see him fight again. I thought he was the best fighter at 135 during his brief time there and would have picked him over JMM at that weight at that time. It is a big jump in weight here but he's tall and has the frame for it. And if Aydin (whom I've not seen) is really just a puncher, as Althugz says, then I agree that Guerrero should dominate him. He has outstanding technical skills.

Aydin is not the underdog and his win over Robert would not be considered an upset. Not sure where that comes from. Jo Jo Dan did get bent over the park bench in the first fight in Turkey but he got beat fair and square in the second one. Dan is as good a boxer as Guererro. Aydin's boxing ability is underrated.
I think Robert is going to get cold cocked.

Actually, Guerrero is a 4-1 favorite in Vegas casinos.

Betting sites have Guerrero as a pretty big favorite.

Hmmmmm. Then I'd be betting heavy on Aydin.

Guerrero has all the tools and mobility to keep Aydin off balance and take it on the cards but it really wouldn't shock me at all to see Aydin pull it off on pure physicality and awkward angle power. If you take parts of Mayorga, Augustus, Darchinyan and some Hamed thats what he reminds me off. He could make it a awkward twist up for Guerreo who can be taken off his mental stride at times, andget sucked in. They better have a stern and none shit ref for it.
