Wow... Larry could be as annoying as all hell. But he's one of these characters some of us will probably miss when he's gone, if only a little bit. Damn, I can't believe he's 81 years old. I mean, he looks it... but time sure does fly. Kinda sad some of these old faces in boxing are either dying off or retiring.
Larry Merchant is a boxing legend. He's been in the game for a long time, from a writer, reporter, to announcer. He'll be missed.
As crazy and out there as he was at times he managed to entertain, also he tended to not just be a cheerleader for hbos house guy.
Everytime I see him on TV I just remember his utter disrespect for Martinez during the Macklin fight. Here's a prime example of a man who's best years were far far behind him.
Larry could be an arrogant, condescending ass at times, but when compared to other boxing analysts/announcers he's been entertaining and done a great job for HBO over the last 30+ years.
Merchant says he hasn't completely retired so we haven't seen the last of him, that's fine by me.
I suppose that's true compared to some but take someone like Al Bernstein and compare him to Larry. I always liked showtime commentators far more than HBO, Steve Farhood > Jim the crazy man Lamply
I just hope he gets the Floyd fight. People say Floyd ducked Pacquiao with very little evidence to fault, yet we have actual video evidence of Floyd ducking Larry on national TV.
