Default How do boxing rankings get determined?

I was just looking at the middleweight rankings and the WBA have Bursak at number 3, Fletcher at 5 and Proksa at 6? How are these decided. I there some points system or is it just at the organisations control?

Boxing rankings are based on a combination of what fighter beat what fighter, and also how much a fighter's promoter pays a sanctioning body for a better ranking...

Not sure but BoxRecs are the worst! Got Hopkins #1 in the World at Light-Heavyweight ahead of Dawson. Tony Bellew was ahead of Nathan Cleverley before the Chilemba fight. (Not checked since to see if he still is.) Audley Harrison is ranked above David Price at Heavyweight...... Awful.

Rankings are for uneducated fair weather boxing fans that like to pretend they know whats going on.

    Rankings - Meaningless
    Belts - Meaningless

Amir Khan is currently ranked number two welterweight in the world by the WBC despite the fact that he's never fought at welterweight.

Changes daily from what I can understand. I don't think wins or level of opponents have anything to do with rankings at all.

Not sure if fighters can affect their rankings by wearing certain colour shorts or boots.

In fact I think sometimes you can lose, even by knockout and still get a good ranking without facing anyone of any note to climb back up.

It's all fun and games. Sometimes they do it by raffle.

And some money or favors, maybe both. Does anything else make more sense?

Have a look at this thread, one that came after this one. http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...ht-141lbs.html

Its anarchy by proxy with a clever blindfold. A corruption that is so systemic that fighters use a pound of weight to circumvent it and not lose the ranking they worked for.
