Vargas was too big and too good at 154. He's a natural 154 while Cotto is a small welter. He's only 5'7.

I'd say Cotto stops him late or wins it on points. He's a better fighter than Vargas ever was IMO.

    Sensible answer..

Those are the exact reasons why I think he would destroy Cotto and he would do it alot quicker than Margarito did..

Yeah I think Vargas' size would be the deciding factor. He was a natural 154lber while Cotto had his best days at 140/147

Cotto would knock him out late and then Vargas would test positive for steroids and get a 9 month suspension

Cotto quits on his knees around the 6th round. His dick sucking groupies blame the trainer.

I'd take Cotto by UD or late stoppage, Vargas just wasn't a smart fighter and while he'd push Cotto he wouldn't be able to outbox him, his hands were slower than Miguel's, he was more deliberate with his punches. I think Cotto schools him, remember how he connected vs Margarito and Vargas simply never had that chin.

don't be mad that he was able to destroy a Journeyman without the help of the judges lol unlike your silverspoon hero, and really VD? you of all people are gonna talk about anyone making excuses? maybe Vargas will lose cause he had ringing in his ears hahaha

It really is a great matchup style-wise. Who wouldn't want to watch those two brawl?

    Cotto-Tszyu @140
    Cotto-Williams @147-154
    Cotto-JMM @140-147
    Vargas-Williams
    Vargas-Kirkland
    Vargas-Mayweather Jr.
    Vargas-Margarito

Those guys match well vs anyone. Who you got in those matches

Cotto-Tszyu @140 - Tszyu who beat Judah would have beaten Cotto, at his best at this weight he wasn't as poised and when he finally started reaching his prime he already was having trouble making 140, so Tszyu would have taken the W

Cotto-Williams @147-154 - Williams was never really a big puncher and he was a bit one dimensional, any fighter who would use his legs in there and had a good jab and right hand gave him trouble, if Quintana was able to outbox him at 147 Cotto would have done so even easier, especially with the body work, at 154 well depends when, the Williams that lost to Martinez and Lara would be beaten by Cotto, the one with the high punch output at 160 would have made it a 50/50 fight

Cotto-JMM @140-147 - would be a lot more technical than most think, Marquez would probably take a close UD at 140, Cotto would overwhelm him with bodywork and accurate counter punching at 147, too big, too strong

Vargas-Williams - Vargas would have roughed him up and just mauled him throught the fight, winning by UD or late stoppage

Vargas-Kirkland - Vargas would KO him in the mid rounds barring a "lucky" punch

Vargas-Mayweather Jr. - same as every other opponent, Vargas would try to outbox him while getting his ass handed to him throughout 12 rounds

Vargas-Margarito - the cheating fuck didn't ever amount to anything at 154, unless he had his lucky plaster wraps on hand he'd get his ass beat similar to how he did against Mosley, Pacquiao, and the man who retired him, Cotto lol

I'll take Vargas of 02', Both guys could be sucked into dumb exchanges but Vargas wasn't always a free swinging without boxing skill. He outjabbed one of the better jabs in the game with Ike and I'm not so sure his hands were slower than Cottos. Straight line beats a squared hook and eventually Cottoe goes square.

Maybe this is a mismatch that I shouldnt even have made a thread about.

Come to think of it, it's man vs 5"7 midget with short arms, something u might see on spike channel..

Vargas was too big and too skilled for cotto.. in pro boxing, great big man always beats the good little man.

I would honestly be shocked if cotto made it to 6.. he usually puts on his track shoes when shit gets heated so if starts running backwards, he might see the 6th..
