Default Cortez in Khan vs Maidana

There's one of those rumors popular to boxing where people saay something over and over until it's believed that Cortez saved Khan in the final 3 rounds.

I just watched this fight again and that rumor is complete hogwash. There were only 12 breaks in the final 3 rounds. That's 4 per round, by no means an unusual number.

3 or 4 of those breaks were from a hyper aggressive Maidana going through the ropes. You have to step in there.

A few of them both guys had both arms wrapped around each other, have to step in there.

Twice Khan got turned around, you have to step in there.

There are 3 questionable breaks in 3 rounds. On 2 occasions Khan was trying to tie up and Maidana had the arm free. And once Khan was stumbling into Maidana bent down at the waist. It appeared he would either fall or grab hold of Maidana. I think Cortez assumed a break was going to be necessary because it appeared it would and ended up in the way.

To sum it up 12 breaks in 3 rounds, all quick mind you, is not interference. And 3 questionable breaks, not bad but questionable, in 3 rounds is not interference. I hope we can stop this bogus rumor. There's enough BS in boxing without fans making stuff up. Cortez did not save Khan in this fight.

I've never heard anyone say he did save Khan?

That was a great great fight and Maidana came on seriously strong late on but Khan fired back after being all over the place and looking totally out of the game.

Respect to Amir for that win over Maidana, he showed loads of heart and a warrior mentality and got the job done.

Probably one of my favourite Khan fights and one of my favourites in recent years.

Had everything that fight and if anything Cortez did Khan a favour by not stopping it when certain refs would have waved it off.

He looked hard at Khan when his legs were gone and I thought he was gonna stop it but he waited then Khan started firing back well at Maidana.

I haven't seen it heere so much as other places but this is the only place I post anymore so I wanted to put it out there.

I think it's because of the possibility of Floyd/Khan people are doing everything they can truth or not to discredit Khan.

It was a masterful performance. He was dominqting until he got clipped in the 10th. One punch changes some peoples perception but Khan was putting on a clinic.

When you look at all the bullshit hype surrounding Broner then look at the difference between the two fights against Maidana its clearly shows that when Khan keeps his discipline he's a top top fighter.

Amirs got it in him to beat Floyd IF he sticks to a gameplan and doesn't loose his head and make silly mistakes.

Wonder how Khan v Broner would end if they fought ?

Khan would destroy Broner. He's so much bigger, faster and busier. I could see Broner throwing around 10 punches a round.

But Broner might spark him. Not likely but with Khan it's always a possibility.

Maidana having no fucking idea how to throw a straight punch is what saved Khan. Not Cortez. But still. Fuck Cortez

Khan deserves credit in that fight, he really hurt maidana with that brutal body shot. He was exciting throughout the fight and showed real heart for staying on his feet. That victory looks good now.

Mercante Jr is/was just a fuck up riding on his daddy's coat tails... Richard Steele just always got the tough, emotional and high intensity fights that he had to try his best to manage... but Cortez was always a little corrupt to me. jmo...

Cortez retiring..."officially" and not yet again during an actual fight...was a good day for the sport I believe. I didn't see any major rift in the fight but it was a late night. It was likely Khans most 'complete' fight but its a safe bet that Khan stews much more about Maidana than the other way around these days.
