Default The greatest EPIC fights that lived up to the bill...

I'm not talking about surprise classics like Gatti vs. Ward, but about fights that were billed to be all that and then delivered on the epic of the epic. In order, my collection:

    1. Ali vs Frazier 1

    2. Hearns vs. Hagler

    3. DLH vs Trinidad

    4. Bowe vs. Holyfield 1

    5. Tyson vs. Holyfield 1

    6. Mosely vs. DLH 1

    7. Chavez Sr. vs Taylor 1

    8. Jones vs Tarver 1

    9. Norton vs. Holmes 1

    10. Benn vs. Eubank 1

    What are yours?

Cotto - Maragarito 1 despite what happened afterwards and 2 - maybe because of what happened previously

I am guessing for a buzz Louis/SchmellingII should be listed.

The Duran/Leonard fights (excluding III) lived up to or above the hype.

Hagler/Leonard I think went above the hype.

Froch v Groves was pretty epic and brought boxing back to joe public domestically in a massive way.

More than lived up to the hype too and lets be honest who here honestly expected Groves to deck Froch in the first round then totally outbox him?

Not in a million years did I see that one coming

Great fight but also a great event!

Two fights that I knew for a fact that it was gong to be classics were chico-castillo and marquez-vasquez..

I used to post on esb back in the days and while everybody and their mama were talking about delahoya-pacman regarding who should get payed more and what not, bullshit negotiation went on for so long.. its crazy how fans will talk about high profile fights while regarding the real matchups with substance cuz only a very few wanted to talk about marquez-vasquez.. the ones in the know certainly knew wsup though..

Im just waiting for another classic in the making..

Roman gonzalez-brian viloria gives me that kinda vibe..

Viloria is too inconsistent. And he's on the decline. I think Gonzalez slaughters him

He really is inconsistent and that'll always be his achilles heel. He used to have stamina issues as well but he seems to have worked that out..

When he's on point though, he's special to watch and I think he can easily give gonzalez a run for his money..

I dont see anyone in the lower division beating viloria except for roman.. as good as Ioka is, he dont wanna fuck with the hawaiian punch..

Tito, hey girl, the fight could have been more competitive and exciting if Tito didnt have such shitty footwork and if he knew how to cut the ring off.. he's plodding ways made the fight even more boring in the championship rds..

That's why he got taught a boxing lesson only to receive the gift of his life.

Trinidad-DLH did NOT live up to its billing, IMO. It was unsatisfying for both camps.
Trinidad-Vargas, on the other hand, was all it was cracked up to be and more.

I must say, though... Leonard-Hearns-I needs to be in that list somewhere near the top.

Agreed Tito v ODH was awful, Vargas v Tito was brilliant and both were warriors.

Morales v barrera 1 was truly epic

Tito/ODH appeared unsatisfying because of the robbery and end result and the controversy that surrounded it. If it had gone to plan and ODH got the win, it would have been a bit more memorable.

ODH put on a clinic and it was a shame he was robbed in such an open display of dishonesty, corruption and meanness on behalf of the judges and boxing personnel surrounding the fight that night.

Two boxing robberies will always stick out in my mind as the worst of the worst: ODH vs. Trinidad and Roy Jones Jr. vs Park Si Hun in the 88 Olympics. Pacman vs. Bradley comes in with an honorable mention.
