    Default Tour De France

    Anyone into this ?

I don't get cycling. Is it a team even, an individual event ?!? Seems to be both

Just come through Leeds station and it's fucking mayhem. Cyclists on parade and royals arriving tomorrow to make the situation worse. All roads closed. I hope my fucking take away delivery can get through tomorrow night

Tour passes just down road from me on Saturday so I have a house full of guests all weekend to walk down and watch - for what all of 30 seconds ?!

Didn't know I lived in fucking France to be honest

I have no idea how the points/times work in regards to teams other than there is strategy involved as far as taking the lead, carrying the water, allowing team members to pass, etc. It's a loose interpretation of the word "team" it's more like an alliance because when it comes down to brass tacks an individual wins the race and therefore if it comes down to 2 team members it's a race between the 2 team members. I enjoy watching the Tour and I've seen it in person when I visited Paris. Those bikes FLY man, those dudes are really moving especially coming down the mountains which is really sketchy.

You Brits should be happy because you have Mark Cavendish and last year's winner Chris Froome as well as Bradley Wiggins who is also an accomplished cyclist.

American cycling has really been hard hit by all the doping Lance Armstrong of course is the most infamous these days but also Floyd Landis (who won when I saw the race), and George Hincappe, and others....really the last 100% clean dominant cyclist the United States had was the great Greg LeMond. The best American hope this year is Andrew Talansky but we'll see.

The scenery is something great to watch in HD and it's a long drawn out event perfect for drinking

    Yep I'm into it.

Too long to explain fully atm. But yes it is a team and individual event at the same time. Also each stage is a race in its own right (What Cavendish would go for) but the aggregate time of all the stages is the overall winner. Often the winner of the tour doesn't win any stage. On the other hand Cavendish might win 5 stages but he will finish around 100th.

Looking forward to seeing if Froome can make it 3 British wins in a row. Incredible considering we had never won it before.

As for Wiggins, 6 Olympic medals, 4 Gold, and a Tour de France win. Bit of a moody git though

I don't like cycling as a sport to watch, but I feel that about most sports as I get older. Roads being closed for cyclists is just insane and why they cannot just cycle in circuits in venues designed for sports is simply beyond me. What is the point in cycling for miles and miles and miles on open roads? I'm not against that, but I am against roads being closed for them. The road wasn't designed for you cyclists and a monopoly of occupation. I feel the same about the marathon. Get in a stadium and do your laps. Listen to some music if you are bored, but get off the bloody roads. I'm not against cyclists and would prefer them instead of cars, but sports and the open world isn't a good mix. Should we have boxing on every street corner? Granny would get pissed off, so we keep it in venues where only men who want to watch gather together and watch. Cyclists are just greedy in this regard and don't consider the nuisance they are causing. Disturbing Mark TKO's delivery is just not on.

So basically a team concentrates on just one rider to help him win.

So it is a team event.

And reading this morning thats why Wiggins wasn't included. They may have said he wasn't fit enough but it was probably because his team were concentrating on Froome.

I will keep you updated on the takeaway situation.

All watch out for me as it passes through Otley town centre. I'll be stood just in front of Barclays bank with me knob out

    Yep.
It's the main reason I don't like the event as much as I'd like to like it (excuse the redundancy).

What's the point in bicycling for thousands of miles if you're not gonna try to win it yourself?

With you there. That's the bit i don't understand.

And the fact that people like Cavendish will probably win the most stages but finish 100th.

Shouldn't there just be another event for sprinters and such ?!?

This is my lack of understanding I guess - but I will keep you all posted on the takeaway delivery

There is a separate competition within the main race. The Green jersey. It is given to the rider with most points. Points are gained from stage wins and inter stage sprint markers. That's what Cavendish has won before.

Edit : Any takeaway news? I mean, I'm sitting here and I don't even know what type of takeaway you are planning to get!
