Default Anthony Joshua to fight Konstantin Airich

World Boxing News - Airich next for Joshua, Hearn lauds 'real step up' for Olympic champion

Hopefully he might get some rounds in, hes been the distance with some decent fighters like Solis and Glaskov but he has been stopped in the first by Manuel Charr, Tye Fields and in the seventh by Danny Williams. At least this is a bit of a step up for AJ

Why are British promoters so greedy to push their top talent in too far, too fast and too deep??

Lennox wasn't pushed this fast. Neither was Hatton. They destroyed Price. Don't do this to Joshua.

He needs to get some rounds in though and this isn't risky at all IMO.

Airich is a spry 35. 35 plus fights. Too risky.

I bet AJ takes him out no danger whatsoever.

I agree - good matchup and once Joshua gets through this one he can take on Audley who'll be lauding it after his Celebrity Big Brother fame.

    Its not that fast!

Check out Joseph Parkers opponents. That is a brilliant list for such a novice.

Tyson Fury fought the english title holder in his eighth fight.

He'll ko him in 1 round. We all know this so lets cut the bollocks here lol.

Not AJs fault he's a hard hitter but what can Hearn do.... keep feeding him these guys and tell AJ to "Hold Back" a bit ?

That's not gonna help him and carries its own risks.

AJ wants to fight for the British Title next summer at Watford Football ground (local team) the rate he fights at he can get another 6-7 maybe 8 fights in that time.

If each opponent is a slight step up and he can get into fighting past 5-6 rounds he's on the way.

I just worry he's gonna end up against a decent opponent with fuck all rounds under his belt.

I mean his chin is untested and so is his stamina and someone sooner or later will be able to take his power and fire back just as hard.

He really is still an unknown quantity and that youtube vid that surfaced recentley proves he can be decked

My thread on who Joshua's first step up should be against. Posted but last week.

So I guess my question was answered sooner than I thought.

Airich isn't an idiot, he is a fading contender that has fought decent opponents, including a 12 rounder with Odlanier Solis, I don't remember if he was stopped in the 12th or got to the bell.

Definitely a step in the correct direction.

Yearn has chosen wisely, he will not lose. If Anthony did then he does not deserve to be considered the next big thing.

Click on the record of any current top heavyweight and find someone matched tougher than Joshua this early in their career. Barring Pulev they're all "terrible" (I would say the norm for a talented prospect)

    First 7 fights

Stiverne - his opponents had just 32 bouts between them with only 13 wins.
    Wilder - 46 bouts 17 wins.
    Wlad - 176 bouts 64 wins.
    Joshua - 142 bouts 91 wins.

Two of Joshua's opponents have been in the ring with "world" champions (three if you count Prizefighter). With his profile he should be matched a little tougher than the norm but it's not his fault he's bowling over guys that have taken world champion/challengers deep. It would be even more shit if Joshua wasn't wiping the floor with these guys. We'd be looking at a powderpuff boring heavyweight.
