Default Ricardo Mayorga vs Marcos Maidana - Who would have won?

The fight would take place at 147 pounds/67 kilogram, 12 rounds, championship, venue would be in South America.

I would favour Ricardo with a decision, with only Marcos tasting the canvas. I would imagine Ricardo take some heavy blows to the head as his defence is not the best. But his strength and power would take over later in the fight, that would create some knockdowns. It would be bruising.

Mayorga was stronger and better at welterweight.

I like Maidana. But Mayorga was just a total beast.

It's interesting because in a match of hard hitting brawlers you lean towards the harder hitting guy. But the more I consider it Maidana has him beat in many other categories.

Maidana has far better stamina. Smoking may be cool but it doesn't help athletes. Maidana fights with more diversity and follows instruction. And he has the better jab.

My initial reaction was Mayorga but I swung quickly and the more I consider it the more confidence I have in Maidana.

Maidana is more skilled... I'd go Maidana decision but it could go either way, Mayorga was a force of nature in his day.

    Get away!

Mayorga could swing hard for 12 rounds!

Welter weight Mayorga was bullet proof!

Yes. I don't think too highly of either fighter to be honest.

But he was slow and telegraphed everything. That's how Spinks made him look easy.

To sum the great Ricardo Mayorga up. Even though he was a promoters dream in 21 years of professional fighting he only fought 8 championship fights of which he won only 4.

Exactly, especially with Garcia in his corner. i think Mayorga had Yoel judah in his corner later. Cant remember who was training him earlier. Also Maidana wouldn't get psyched by the hulk routine. He would just take his free shots and stay inside and smother mayorga's blitz.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

I really believe Maidana; Mayorga had power too but was clumsier in his style and the pack of cigs he was smoking a day could only suck some energy off him.

I like Maidana. Substance over style. Maidana actually improved when he gained weight, was able to adapt some style. Sorry, I love me some nutty all out Mayorga but dude was a slob after a year plus. He really was.

Doesnt change the fact that the welterweight Mayorga was a machine and would rip through Maidana. Maidana has never faced anyone as big, strong, relentless or hard hitting as Mayorga.

Hes only faced fighters who have moved up in weight to welter. Mayorga was a very very strong Welter who could take ome of the hardest punches in the world.
